Florida's athletic program reigned supreme again in the SEC for the 2015-16 academic year.
The Gators won another GateHouse Media All-Sports Trophy. Although results weren't official until the baseball race was decided Saturday, UF had clinched the award before the weekend started.
Florida ended up sweeping all three divisions, taking the overall, men's and women's categories.
It was the 15th sweep for UF, which is the only school to take all three divisions in the history of the award.
For Florida, it is the 26th time the athletic program has won the award and the ninth straight.
“It never gets old,” said Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley. “It's hard to do. Sometimes people don't realize how hard it is.
“Obviously, there were impressive performances by our coaches and student-athletes. I'm very proud of them.”
Florida won SEC championships in five sports -- gymnastics, soccer, softball, men's swimming and diving and women's tennis where the women swept the SEC schedule.
The scores are computed by taking the points earned in each sport and dividing them by the number of teams participating in those sports. The points each team receives depends on the number of teams participating in that sport.
UF won its 22nd women's title and 19th men's title.
Florida first won the award in 1987-88 and since then there have only been three years since then when the Gators did not capture the award.
The trophy was given out by the SEC in 1983-84 and the league continued to award a trophy until 1994. The New York Times Newspaper Group took over the award in 1995 and continued until 2012 when Halifax Media Group began giving the award.
This is the second year of the award for GateHouse, which owns The Sun as well as dozens of other publications around the country.
