Prayers for the family of former Tennessee ladies basketball coach Pat Summitt. Her dementia is steadily getting worse and family members say they fear she is near death. The Lady Vols and the Lady Bulldogs had some epic battles during her career.

It appears Pat Summitt has rapidly progressed throgh the hell that is Alzheimer's disease. May she have a gentle, peaceful death while avoiding much of the unnecessary, painful, and undignified procedures used only to prolong the inevitable. Job well-done, great lady. Rest easy.

I've witnessed the horror of dementia and Alzheimers with a family member and with the wife of a close elderly friend. It is more difficult for the family than for the victim. My good friend would weep because he could not protect the wife he loved from this disease. I pray that my loved ones and myself die quickly rather than suffer through this. If I find myself succumbing to Alzheimers I will seriously consider discussing with my family about ending my life rather than putting them through this horror.
