ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia junior tight end Jeb Blazevich has been named as a nominee for the 2016 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, according to an announcement on Wednesday.
In addition, Blazevich was also included on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which recognizes college football's elite in community service, on Wednesday. Last week, Blazevich was included on the Mackey Award Watch List, which highlight's the country's top tight end.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Good Works Team, an additional spot will be added to this year's NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision team, and an announce will be made with a final roster of 12 members in September. Twelve players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA along with an honorary head coach will also be selected to make a 25-man team.
Georgia leads the nation in Allstate AFCA Good Works team honorees with 16 since the award's inception in 1992. The Bulldogs' previous Good Works Team honorees are Alec Millen in 1992, Travis Jones in 1993, Brian Smith in 1995, Matt Stinchcomb in 1997 and 1998, Brett Millican in 2000, Jon Stinchcomb in 2001, David Greene 2003, D.J. Shockley in 2005, Quentin Moses in 2006, Kelin Johnson in 2007, Jeff Owens in 2009, Aron White in 2011, Aaron Murray in 2012, Chris Conley in 2014 and Malcolm Mitchell in 2015.
Last year, Mitchell became the first Bulldog to be named the Good Works Team captain.
Semifinalists for the Wuerffel Trophy will be announced on November 3 and finalists will be announced on November 23. The formal announcement of the 2016 recipient will be on December 6 at the National Football Foundation's press conference in New York City.
The presentation of the 2016 Wuerffel Trophy will occur at the 48th Annual All Sports Association Awards Banquet on February 10, 2017, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Blazevich, a native of Charlotte, N.C., made 12 starts and played in 13 games during his sophomore campaign in 2015. He caught 15 balls for 144 yards and a touchdown last year after snagging 18 catches for 269 yards and two scores as a freshman in 2014. Blazevich was named to the Freshman All-Southeastern Conference Team following his first season.
Blazevich has been active in the Athens community and beyond during his UGA days. He has visited Camp Sunshine, a camp that provides recreational, educational and support programs for children with cancer and their families; made hospital visits in Athens, Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla.; worked with Extra Special People, which is an organization that assists individuals with developmental disabilities and their families; and spoke to elementary school students at the UGA Athletic Association's "Learn, Play, Excel" event about education, leadership, anti-bullying, respect for authority and the value of participation in athletics, among other community service contributions.
The Bulldogs open versus North Carolina in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta during the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on September 3. ESPN will televise the matchup at 5:30 p.m.
