.. but i saw highlights of the race today where the guy tipped the guy in front of him and spun him out to pass and finish ahead and thought...this is a sport? I must be missing something. Is that legal in nascar? If so, why?

Is that legal in nascar? If so, why? That's a good question, to which I have no definitive answer. Bumping other cars (or trading paint as they call it) is tolerated, but running into someone purposely can get you suspended. As far as who decides what is what, that is left up to the governing bodies in the Nascar front office.Next time we will learn about "bump drafting" on Super Speedways

It is generally accepted that if A is faster than B, but B blocks A from passing when A clearly can do so, then A can give B a nudge that loosens the rear wheels and causes B to lose speed. Then A can pass. It is not acceptable to intentionally cause another driver to wreck, unless your name is Brad Keslowski or Carl Edwards. They get away with intentionally wrecking other drivers.

Walter, if you really want to see some fun racing, watch the race from Bristol Saturday night, August 20. Forty cars racing a 1/2 mile track at 100 mph. The track looks like a giant soup bowl. But the racing is really fun.
