Arnie passed away Sunday. He gave us a reason to like golf. posted something on the movie/tv board since we don't have a golf section. tho i wasn't aware of golf til i was a teenager in the early 70s, near the end of his competitive pga era, you could see why fans including my uncle ken and cousin gary, who were part of the army, were so enthralled. the guy was simply dashing.

I saw Arnie and some golf on black and white TV about 1960. My buddy and I used to sneak on the Goodyear course through a loose fence and play from the 3rd hole (out of sight of the clubhouse) through the 17th hole (skipping 9 and 10, of course). We had a driver a 5 iron, and a putter to share. The Goodyear plant had a big (really big) building that was unused all the time, except when the Goodyear Blimp came through and parked in it for a few days as it traversed the country. Saw the blimp land there the first time when I was about 10.

RIP, didn't know he spent three years in the Coast Guard, that he was a Mason or had logged 20,000 hrs flight time.

Arnie passed away Sunday. He gave us a reason to like golf. www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Palmer-Arnold.html read the section under "early years." it mentions that he lost only one match on high school. the player he lost to was my ex girlfriends grandfather. every family outing he talked about it. he got into an accident and lost his leg early in life which prevented his own career. i think he wrote a book about playing golf with one leg. if i can find info on it online i'll share it.
