10 wins in a row now for the Jackets after their SO win last night. To say I am surprised would be the understatement of the year but I don't know how else to describe it.
They gave up 46 shots and still won a game. In the past, giving up 46 shots meant a 6-1 or 7-2 loss. Not with this crew, though. Even when their defense lets them down, they find a way. Torts is definitely the leader in the clubhouse for the Jack Adams Award.
Only negative was not seeing a full house at Nationwide last night. I assume the kids are out of school and if having a team on a 9 game win streak can't sell the place out, what will? I just don't get it.

Pens fans travel well so that will definitely be a sellout. Re: the 21-5-4 record, it is amazing in and of itself but to think they started our 2-3-1 makes it that much more incredible. On that note, Torts became the first US-born coach to win 500 games the other night and while most news outlets covered the milestone, only ESPN followed it up with an article giving him his due respect. I get that his mouth has caused him trouble in his career and a lot of people hate him as a result so I suspect that is why the Canadian outlets aren't talking about it much but I have said it since the day he took over our club... the man can coach the game of hockey. And if he ever gets his team to buy in to his approach, he can win a lot of games. The Jackets are proof of that because that roster still has holes. I just hope he has learned enough over the years to prevent them from tuning out his message as quickly as his other teams did.

The streak is now 14 in a row with Saturday's game against the Wild looming large. Minnesota has now won 12 in a row so something's got to give.
I may do some digging later but I have to believe it has been a long, long time since two teams with 12+ game winning streaks have met, if ever.
Simply amazing.

Simply amazing. first time in the 99 year history of the nhl that two teams will meet, both of whom have 7+ current win streaks... at least i thought that's what i saw this morning. the cbj continues to excel on power plays, something that has been a zero since the team came into existence. and bob has been unreal, especially vs boston a couple nights ago when the jackets stopped playing after being up 3-0. the streak may end in the twin cities tomorrow night, but who would have thought that the biggest game in pro hockey would be columbus at minnesota? ??

Your comment about Bob is what frustrates me so much about Jackets fans (not you specifically but in general). Last year they did everything but physically harm the guy, wanting him out of town faster than the Michigan team bus in November. While the franchise has made an abundance of blunders over their existence, signing Bobrovsky was the right move. Now? They can't praise him enough which makes the vilification last year all the more frustrating. I won't profess to be an expert but I watch enough hockey to know that the defense playing in front of him last year was hot garbage and when a goalie lacks trust in his backline and that backline continues to hang him out to dry, it is a recipe for disaster. We both agreed earlier this year that the defense was still the achilles heel but they have certainly turned this around in a hurry. While I have only seen parts of a couple of games live, the one thing that stands out to me this year is the lack of turnovers, especially in their own zone. They are still giving up over 30 SOGs a game but are second in the league in GA (and first in goal differential... by a large margin) which tells me the other teams are still getting shots but when those shots aren't coming off of prime scoring chances down low or odd-man rushes after a turnover, you are a better defensive team. Not rocket science, obviously. Credit Bob for making the stops but give Torts and Brad Larsen major kudos for correcting the mistakes that last year would have ended up in the back of their own net.

One other factor re last season. Sergei battled groin issues most of the year. Combine that with a Swiss cheese back line and you've got issues. Bob has regained form in part because he's healthy, as well as the factors you state, imho
