Good. Dirtbags would just sabotage Trump's administration from within if this weren't the case. . . www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-diplomats-idUSKBN14Q0DUPolitics | Fri Jan 6, 2017 | 2:25am EST U.S. envoys appointed by Obama asked to quit by Inauguration DayU.S. President Barack Obama attends a military full honor review farewell ceremony given in his honor, accompanied by Defense Secretary Ash Carter at Joint Base Myer-Henderson in Washington, U.S. January 4, 2017. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team has issued a blanket mandate requiring politically appointed ambassadors installed by President Barack Obama to leave their posts by Inauguration Day, the U.S. ambassador to New Zealand said on Friday. "I will be departing on January 20th," Ambassador Mark Gilbert said in a Twitter message to Reuters. The mandate was issued "without exceptions" through an order sent in a State Department cable on Dec. 23, Gilbert said. He was confirming a report in the New York Times, which quoted diplomatic sources as saying previous U.S. administrations, from both major political parties, have traditionally granted extensions to allow a few ambassadors, particularly those with school-age children, to remain in place for weeks or months. Officials from the State Department and Trump's transition team were was not immediately available for comment. The order threatens to leave the United States without Senate-confirmed envoys for months in critical nations like Germany, Canada and Britain, the New York Times reported. A senior Trump transition official told the newspaper there was no ill will in the move, describing it as a simple matter of ensuring Obama's overseas envoys leave the government on schedule, just as thousands of political aides at the White House and in federal agencies must do. Trump has taken a strict stance against leaving any of Obama's political appointees in place as he prepares to take office on Jan. 20, aiming to break up many of his predecessor's signature foreign and domestic policy achievements, the newspaper said. Diplomats told New York Times the order has thrown their personal lives into a tailspin, leaving them scrambling to secure living arrangements and acquire visas allowing them to stay in their countries so their children can remain in school.

This is the same as repealing the ACA without having a replacement for it. Every US Embassy in the world will be without an ambassador. Brilliant. What could go wrong with that idea? Oh....wait....It must be that Trump has already finished selection of the 170+ new US Ambassadors, and they are already packing to leave for their new jobs. That must be it. Nevermind.

Obama did the same thing when he took office and hardly a word was mentioned when he did it. Of course, Obama was the omnipotent uniter, glorious dear leader, and Nobel Peace Prize winning champion of oppressed peoples worldwide. <puke> www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/01/06/trump-tells-obamas-ambassadors-to-leave-by-inauguration-day.htmlQuote: However, Obama’s transition team sent out similar guidance -- eight years ago -- telling ambassadors appointed by President George W. Bush they had to leave their posts by Inauguration Day.
The Washington Post reported in December 2008 that ambassadors would not be permitted to stay on and that “the sweeping nature of the directive suggests that Obama has little interest in retaining any of Bush's ambassadorial appointees.”

Along with the other associated non-State professionals who work in an Embassy. There will be exceptions, I believe. And the Embassy work will continue, seamlessly. You'll perhaps miss the political bent but then you should, the Left is gone. Maybe a few parties missed, maybe not. Flights from DC happen every hour to all parts of the globe. What you'll miss though is a few months of the position personal touch but you often get that w death, illness and family emergencies, sometimes for months at a time. Probably fewer than 10 that are critical but even then there are people in place that will communicate and effectively do so. The dogs bark but the caravan moves on. Yip, yip.

Either a US Ambassador is important, and thus there is some risk, or they aren't, in which case, who cares if an Obama appointee attends the Prime Minister's wife's funeral or attends a party or ribbon cutting in Lower Squidunk? It's just another in what is becoming a trend of unforced errors. Perhaps we should start calling this type of thing a "false start penalty" for Trump.

Haven't really dug into the story, but on the surface, this seems like a chickenshit move imo.

Fred pointed out that Obama did similarly, and sure enough, he did. Apparently, what is different and out of the norm is that administrations routinely grant waivers so individual families aren't screwed by some circumstance. So it isn't that the Ambassadors are canned, it's the lack of courtesy by the Trump folks to allow families to get their affairs in order.

If it's a hard and fast kind of thing, that's the part I'm talking about that seems to be chickenshit. There's a new sheriff in town...I get that. The (appointed) diplomats have to move on, but some cases deserve a little consideration. That said, Daleko is right that the real work is done by staff and that there are only a handful of outposts that are super critical to the U.S.

That's a little more reassuring, and speaks to Daleko's point. Agree with you about the "chickenshit" aspect. The world wasn't going to come to an end for Trump if his ambassador to Podunk is a Democrat for a month or two.

They have been advised ahead of time. They have until Jan 20th. That's more than 2 weeks' notice -- the same as anyone else can be expected to get. How many MONTHS does your company allow a fired employee to hang around?
Just more baseless whining from the left.
