Looks pretty clear that the punk took a head shot.  EVERYTHING shut down instantly.   Notice the second shot from the good guy goes so low it hits the lower part of the counter 3 feet in front of him.

It's hard to tell for sure, but I think the counter-killing shot was actually his 3rd.  I watched it in slo-mo and it looks like shot 1 misses or only wounds, shot 2 is the nice one, and THEN shot 3.  I can't be sure, but it's cool to see one empty in the air as he is squeezing off the next round.   That guy has done some practicing or was extremely lucky.

If you google it you can view several TV reports and interviews. Pretty contrite guy. Only thing I would question and it's after the fact with hindsight, he punched one through the front window as perp #2 was booken it out of the place. Nice round hole, about .45. Enough energy to tap whoever might have been in the way but not involved. Again in the heat of getting shot at but................ Perhaps if he saw someone outside he pulls off but at that time focus, generally, becomes very narrow.

I guess you'd have to be there.  Do we know that the bad guy did nothing but run, or could he have stopped at the door to take a shot at the good guys to stop them from following him?  If he stopped to take a shot, I'd have shot at him too.

That's why I pray I will never be put in that situation.   Taking someone's life intentionally is tough enough, but accidentally wounding or killing an innocent would be very hard to bear.
