What are your former Republican colleagues going to do? Him (smirking): They’ll play along for a while. Me: A while? Him: They’ll get as much as they want – tax cuts galore, deregulation, military buildup, slash all those poverty programs, and then get to work on Social Security and Medicare – and blame him. And he’s such a fool he’ll want to take credit for everything. Me: And then what? Him (laughing): They like Pence. Me: What do you mean? Him: Pence is their guy. They all think Trump is out of his mind. Me: So what? Him: So the moment Trump does something really dumb – steps over the line – violates the law in a big stupid clumsy way … and you know he will ... Me: They impeach him? Him: You bet. The East Coast Professor who predicted his win, and correctly predicted the last X number of Presidents, also predicted that he would be impeached when he announced that Trump would win. I don't remember his reasoning.

Some things to note. First you've lived a sheltered life. This isn't creepy, this is politics yesterday and today. Two, the guy he allegedly talked to was a FORMER member of Congress. Maybe has some stroke, maybe a curmudgeon out of flavor. Three, this scenario is being passed around by a few. It gets steam the more it is repeated. A Left Wing dog whistle that you hopeless saps react to by drooling. Allan Lichtman, a political historian who teaches at the American University in Washington and is the guy who used his own system of 13 true or false statements to judge whether the incumbent party will retain the White House, started this line of though last November on CNN. And they gladly gave him all of the airtime he wanted to salve their hurt butt. And he suggests he has no system in coming to that conclusion but it is based on his gut feel.

This is just an angle of discussion to attempt to make sense of the disparity between the kinds of policies that Republicans are known for and what they are talking about with Trump. The two are not the same and it begs the question how it will go once the rubber meets the road. Nobody here is claiming it will happen or that it is true. It's just a guy speculating to which I, for one, responded only that it was an "interesting scenario". |
