Illinois has hired Oklahoma State coach Brad Underwood. Rumor is that Oklahoma State will hire Doug Gottlieb.

Mizzou hired Cuonzo Martin from California. Martin led the UT vols to the Sweet 16 three years ago before Martin decided to go to Cal when Spanky Hart decided not to give him a contract extension. The only good thing going on at UT is they now have a new AD as Spanky Hart retired. Martin is home in the St. Louis area so he will be right at home at Mizzou.

The latest story is that Underwood and AD Mike Holder did not have the best relationship. Underwood earned $1 million dollars last year which IIRC was the lowest salary among the Big 12 coaches. Underwood and Holder had discussed salary. Holder offered $2.2 million per year and Underwood wanted more money. The Big 12 average salary is $2.4 million. Illinois offered Underwood $3 million/year and agreed to pay Underwood's $3 million buyout. So, here we are. |
