The US murder rate is nearly 5 times higher than in China primarily because of easy access to guns.. I wonder if they've learned that lesson? What was the murder rate in China in 1948? And as long as you support China's policy you'd agree that illegal possession of firearms should result in a minimum punishment of 3 years in prison, with the maximum being the death penalty. I'd favor the death penalty for a felon in possession of a firearm, especially if he is involved in a felony. That would solve several other issues.Did I say I agreed with China's policy? No, I did not. ...and if you are going to compare the murder rate in China in 1948, how 'bout we use a comparative statistic of the murder rate in the United States in 1863 since both were times of civil war.

HELL NO....and in CA they should pass a law that anyone from CA has to have the gun for at least 3 years before firing it.
now down here in Florida, it is a right of passage for you to get your first .22LR at age 8-10 and your first shotgun at age 12.
y'all were, and still a bit slow down there We used to be like that here before all the massholes and NY liberals moved here and fucked us over royal.

Ummmmm, I think cell phones is right up there with booze/drugs in using an automobile as a murder weapon. I believe they lead the list as #1 cause of vehicular homicide in the under 30 group. ...and so we regulate their use. Hint-hint... It's illegal to text while driving in LA, Walt. People do it anyway. People IGNORE the law, and there aren't enough cops in the world to catch everyone doing it. Cartching one does NOT deter the other 1,000 who were doing it at the same time.
Laws, like locks, are only deterrents to good people.
I haven't seen a single law forbidding the illegal carrying of cellphones. Have you?

You can look up Ohio's gun laws if you like, thanks to the friendly NRA. You will notice that the shitty states are colored Stop Sign Red, which means they are NOT supportive of the 2nd Amendment.www.nraila.org/gun-laws/

Actually, I was thinking if the rates were as low or lower then V today, "culture" rather than "law" might be contributing. Which might be supportive for your view you have indicated in the past.

There were very few murders committed during the U.S. civil war. Death in combat is NOT murder. Both sides had atrocious POW facilities, which led to technical murder. However, many of the deaths from gunshot wounds in the civil war could have been prevented if modern medical knowledge had existed back then. A bullet did a lot of killing by introducing contaminants into the wound--- dirt, dirty germ-infested pieces of clothing, etc. Sepsis was the major killer of the American Civil War.
Surgery, disinfectants and antibiotics were crude and not very effective.
The best contemporary ER surgeons are the ones who have worked in war zone hospitals, abroad and domestic. You don't learn much in a Beverly Hills hospital where a traumatic event would consist of a torn toenail, a wooden sliver in the champagne glass hand, or one of Muffy's "impatience, priveleged, and insensitive to others induced" headaches.

Death in combat is NOT murder.
but, it is homicide. and the homicide rate in europe during the 20th century, via the use of a gun, was quite high. Even though for the most part personal ownership of guns was very limited, or forbidden.

Homicide is not a crime. It's the mindset of the killer that determines if it is a crime. Killer is not a dirty word, either. Abortionists are killers, and that seems to be OK with some. Executioners are killers and they are definitely OK people.
