yes, the nhl playoff format sucks, when you have the 3rd best record in the conference (4th best in the league overall) but instead of drawing the team with the 6th best record in the east, you get the #2 team/defending stanley cup champs in the opening round. it stinks but there's nothing you can do about it. yes, nhl teams have come back from 3-0 deficits (3, i believe, the last being the flyers in '10) but it's damn rare. but you can't win 4 games tonite. you can win one to save some post-season face. yes, your best all-around defenseman, zach werenski, is out with a busted face. play for him. bobrovsky, you've been decent the first 3 games. tonite you need to be great.
red ash, my old hs basketball coach, used to say he loved it when teams try to full court press his teams... because it's an invitation to lay-ups. it was true then and it's true still today for both hoops and hockey. one good pass beats traps and sets up opportunities. the last 2 games, especially in game 3, the pens pressed the jackets big time and rattled us. more often than not we couldn't get the puck out of our own zone. tonite, it needs to be an opportunity, every time, for odd man rushes. make pittsburgh pay for their aggressiveness and send the series back there for game 5.

Had they given up that 3 goal lead, I don't know that they would have recovered so that goal right after intermission was enormous. You said it well earlier, they couldn't win 4 games tonight and they may have played bad enough to lose tonight in spots but you take this win and build on it in game 5. Congrats. |
