My all-time worst is pickled beets from a can. My mom liked 'em so I grew with them bastards. Parents learned to let me skip them when I'd almost throw up on the table every time they made me try to eat them. Followed by liverwurst/Braunschweiger/pate, cow tongue, tripe and sweetbread. I like pork chops, onions and a proper bleu cheese dressing but can't stand ranch.

I guess mine would be corned beef hash, Underwood deviled ham, Vienna sausages and stuff like that. I hate fried liver and onions. I like braunschweiger , pate, etc.

Pickled beets from a can give me a gag reflex. I can eat fresh beets, those are good. And yes I will gladly trade with OGL.

I'm fortunate, because there aren't many foods that I don't like, and I'll try almost anything once--octopus soup, frog legs, pickled pig's feet, etc.
I refuse to try Rocky Mountain oysters. No can do.
My grandmother used to make a God awful sandwich by grinding ham and celery in a meat grinder. Not sure where she found that horrible recipe.
I was always polite to my elders, but it wasn't easy to eat Grandma's ground ham-and-celery sandwiches.

I don't eat them nowadays, because they are high on the glycemic index.

I finally realized that my mother, as a product of her time, had no idea about the nature of wholesome food. It was just how things were. Food, in those days was just.... different.

About the only canned food I buy are asparagus for my casserole and pineapple slices for sandwiches. Any other veggies I buy are fresh or frozen. With frozen veggies I read the labels to see if they use chemical preservatives and/or sugar. If so, the bag goes back in the freezer. Since I have enough corn (on the cob) frozen for about 2 meals a week all year after harvest, I sometimes buy a bag of frozen corn to add to soups. I will buy frozen green beans and lima beans, and I buy dried pinto beans and black eye peas. As a child, we were allowed to choose one food we could refuse to eat. I chose spinach because my mother cooked spinach down to a slimy mess. Even today I will only eat spinach sparingly, and only if it is lightly steamed and buttered. That meant we had to eat calf liver and beets, but we ate only small portions of those. When my children were little they had the same rule as me. They must try something once, and then if they really disliked it, it could go on their "do not eat" list, but something on there must come off, as they only were allowed 3 items on the list.
