This is according to a guy who apparently lives there and knows all the laws. I don't ... to both. We all know I am prejudiced towards the Mini-14, but I am throwing this out there from a neutral point of view.
I basically THANK GOD I don''t live in that crappy state and still have MY gun freedom! If I want one, I can have a normal AR-15.

Was just out at the range with my three AR's the other day. Fun fun fun. I see the guy with the stainless mini above has an Accu-Strut installed like I do on my Ranch Rifle.

That's cause he has the older model with the skinny barrel. The 582 series like mine has a heavier barrel and doesn't need that ugly thing hanging under it.
3 AR's? That's a lot of dirty chambers to clean. Some people really like cleaning guns. I don't.

Think positive. Even if you get little benefit from eliminating barrel whip on the non-pencil barreled Mini's you still get a heat sink benefit. And I think they improve the looks of the Mini. You think they're ugly. We know this because of your propensity to bludgeon us with your opinions.
And who cleans their AR's every session? Surely not me. I shot about 100 rounds in each and they're still pretty darn clean. And I shot them a couple of times before that without cleaning so I'm guessing about 500 rounds without a cleaning. As long as they're properly lubed it's not a problem at all. Contrary to your constant ragging on direct impingement AR's you don't know anything about it because you've never owned one so by all means, give us your not so regarded opinion on the subject that I know is coming.
I always use quality ammo that's like Duane when Claptron ran him over with that peach truck - CLEAN, unlike his little bro who died DIRTY.

I always use quality ammo that's like Duane when Claptron ran him over with that peach truck - CLEAN, unlike his little bro who died DIRTY. I didn't say you clean your AR's after every session. AR's are just naturally dirtier than a Mini-14 because of the operating system. ALL the gas and powder particles used to operate the mechanism blows DIRECTLY into the chamber, unlike a small amount of bleed gas that goes into a Mini's piston tube and NONE enters the chamber. I don't care if you use ammunition assembled in an operating room. AR's shoot dirtier than Minis. Everyone knows this; it's no secret. It may not be a GREAT difference, but in combat, I want MY rifle to function every time.
I don't have to own a gun to know its operating system and the flaws associated with it. There are millions of words written about AR's and I'll bet at least some of them are factual. Don't you?
Heat sink? I'm not going to shoot 100 rds per minute. I shoot for accuracy, not volume. And speaking of accuracy, military trials accepted AR's that held 6 inch groups or less at 100 yards. A Mini-14 with no Accu Strut will do that all day long. If I want sniper accuracy, I'll use a bolt action in a heavier caliber. In addition, an M-14 with the gas tube under the barrel looks fine, because it is FUNCTIONAL. A Mini with the tube is like a girl with a boob job --- it might look OK, but we know it is NOT real.
We've been through this before. The AR is a nice gun, and if you want to deal with less reliability (no matter HOW slight) AND the fact that people fear the gun just for its looks, carry one. The Mini is more reliable (Murphy was an optimist) AND it looks like a normal "innocent" rifle......... at least more than an AR or AK do. People see those and automatically think "military, police or terrorist.." As I said before, I'd be happy to have you backing up me and my Mini with your AR. That's OK by me. We are STILL on the same side, and that's what matters most!
And if you remember, this whole thing was about defeating the anti-gun kooks in California. I don't live there so I can own ANY AR that looks any way I want it to, and which functions as designed. I am not the one who is handicapped by liberal idiots.
