Gee, thanks for reminding again of all the things I already know. Oh, I know you'll just say it's for the education of others on the board who are not so learned, however, the fact remains that every time you pull this shit it's aimed squarely at me with coon-ass condescension. I won won the bet. You didn't say superior in every way and 5.56 is obviously greatly superior in muzzle velocity and trajectory. Pay up. $1,000. Shall I PM you my PayPal address? If you want to be a jackass about it I'll split the loss with you. Sorry, I didn't lose anything. The .30-30 is a superior combat round over the 5.56.
Since you pointed out that I did not specify which superiority, you can't claim any kind of win. Let ME point out that I never agreed to enter into a bet with you. I said "I'll bet" in a general manner. Don't try to pull a Willie on me.
Either way, the ballistics tables prove I am right. What do snipers use? It ain't the little 5.56. They use bigger, heavier, harder hitting rounds. Mutt: "I'll bet dollars to donuts you didn't know that the "lowly" .30-30 is superior to the 5.56 NATO."
Fred: "I'll take that bet."
Mutt: "5.56 is obviously greatly superior in muzzle velocity and trajectory."As you can see, you offered a bet and I took the bet. Your own words then proved you lost the bet. Who won the the bet is cut and dried. Pay up, coon-ass.

Sorta like making treaties with the Native Americans then renigging on the treaty. Indian giver. You probably pulled the same shit with the southern blacks. The fact remains - you owe me $1,000 due to your own stupidity. I'll bet you didn't know how stupid you are.

Did I say "Hey FRed, let's make a bet?" No I did not. I also showed that the .30-30 is a superior combat round over the 5.56, so you have no victory to claim. You are WRONG.
If you still think I owe you money when you were proven wrong, go ahead and do your best Traitor Willie imitation and whine and cry about something you are not owed.

You only said superior. You yourself proved that in some ways it is not "superior". You lose. Pay up.

How long is the bullet in a 5.56/.223? Interesting thing happens when the leading point strikes an object w suitable resistance.

Thank you for proving I NEVER said I would take the bet. Sorry. Superiority in POWER beats velocity and trajectory. How long is the bullet in a 5.56/.223? Interesting thing happens when the leading point strikes an object w suitable resistance. Length will vary by bullet weight. Not sure exactly what interesting things you are referring to.If you are referring to the .223 bullet tumbling myth, ALL bullets want to swap ends when they hit something that resists their momentum. Reasonbeing the rear half of the bullet is heavier than the front. Many a bullet has been recovered facing the wrong way from a dead game animal. Coincidentally, I was reading about that just a few days ago. What happens when a loaded tractor trailer traveling at 70 MPH locks up its brakes? Yep, the heavy trailer wants to pass right by the lighter tractor."The modern high power sporting cartridge relies on high velocity loaded with soft expanding type projectiles. As the projectile strikes flesh, it mushrooms (or tumbles) causing displacement of tissue through both physical contact as well as pressure." Good bit of interesting reading here: www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/Effective+Game+Killing.html

It doesn't compare the Russian rounds to other calibers.

What does all that mean? It doesn't compare the Russian rounds to other calibers. showing bullet upset, compares the 7.62x39 to 30-30 on wound channel ballistics. into human size targets, shows better bullet performance than the other russian rounds. the 7.62 x 54 is about equal to the 303, 8mm mauser, 30.06 in what the round does.

Yeah, that's about what I said. The 7.62x39 is equivalent to the .30-30.
I've never thought much about the 54, but since the .308 is 7.62x51, I can see where they might be similar.
