... and so was i for completely different reasons. the program hosts over a dozen stripper/sex parties for recruits and some players over a 5 year period. they get a proverbial slap on the wrist (probation, lose 1 scholarship/year for 4 years, pitino sits out 5 league games, vacation of wins/'13 ncaa title) and the louisville coach/his a.d. are 'appalled' and say they will fight the 'over the top punishment'. wow. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/19645627/louisville-cardinals-rick-pitino-fail-once-again-response-ncaa-punishment-sex-scandali can't help but compare this to the entire trinkets for tattoos affair that ended up costing jim tressel his job, plus a 5 year show-cause penalty that basically ended his cfb coaching career. pitino claims he knew nothing at all about the sex parties. if there'd been just one, i could buy that. but 12+? seriously? he has a staff of 12, overseeing 15 basketball players. and he knew nothing? we've talked here plenty in the past about coaches intentionally looking the other way on a host of issues, but this one has never passed the smell test. and louisville actually fighting to overturn this minimal punishment stinks more.

Hmm, at lunch I think I'll find a Kentucky BBall message board. It should be very entertaining.

He's always been a scoundrel. While the tatoos were the tinder that started the fire, at its core, TOSU/The Vest didn't get pummeled for that, imo. They could have put out the fire w minimal damage, when they found out. no doubt. tressel lied to the ncaa/tosu at the beginning of the season (signing forms saying every player was eligible as far as he knew) when he found out and tried to 'solve' it on his own instead of literally walking 3 doors down to talk to compliance. that said, trading your own property for ink, vs getting sexual favors at parties organized by a member of the coaching staff? tressel loses his career and pitino loses 5 games? no doubt the 'c' in ncaa has never stood for 'consistent'. lol. meanwhile, u of l has pitino and petrino as head coaches for their successful hoops/fb programs. those two have quite the track record off the field.

Tressel and tOSU got hit so hard, imo, because they embarrassed the NCAA. NCAA let the 5 players play in the Sugar Bowl because they believed Tressel and the school knew nothing of the infractions. Then Tressel doubled down by lying on the NCAA forms the following season. Had they told the truth from the get go, the players probably would have missed the Sugar Bowl, but the sanctions on the school and Tressel would have been far less. Again, JMO.

Again, JMO. actually it was the summer of '10, prior to the sugar bowl, when tressel lied on the forms, eventually putting both him and the school in trouble. the story trickled out prior to the bowl game about the players trading trinkets for in, where tressel still didn't let on that he'd known about it for months. after the bowl game, yahoo sports began to put together the story of tressel having communication w/terrelle pryor's father figure/mentor, and with the lawyer who had begun emailing the coach, betraying client/attorney privilege, and later being disbarred for it, telling tressel that the guy doing the tatts for the players, and accepting various items in lieu of cash for payment, was actually under federal investigation for drugs. a.d. gene smith caught wind too, and suspended tressel in march '11 prior to the yahoo story being published. by memorial day, smith had the full story and tressel was out.

Fair enough, stand corrected on the timeline.
