past teams of ex-tosu coach thad matta have gotten together in the past... typically every other summer... but this year after he lost his job a month ago today, it was a little different. more than 30 ex players, coaches and staff surprised him with a retirement party friday at his home, organized by his wife barb and former player matt terwilliger. they came from not just all over the country, but from italy and greece too where guys like aaron craft, shannon scott and david lighty just wrapped up their pro seasons. former assistant john groce (now head coach at akron) was there as well, along w/greg oden, mike conley, evan turner, william buford, j.j. sullinger, jon diebler, je'kel foster, evan ravenal and others. they wore shirts reading 'thad's boys/we all matta' made by ex-player brandon fuss-cheatham's clothing company. matta told the dispatch it was one of the greatest nights of his life... better than any win they ever had. pretty cool to see.
