I believe that's called a "back door cover" I'm not sure back door cover applies as UT never had a lead in the game plus the Gators won while covering the spread. I'd say that's a front door cover even though it took a special walk off play to make it happen. UT ran 73 offensive plays which is normal in the SEC, but UF's defense was gassed in the 4th quarter. The defense felt the affects of missing a 1 OLB, a 2 DE, a 2 DT, and a 2 OLB. More of the true freshmen DBs will have to step up as the season progresses too. On the offense, true freshman Kadarius Toney out of 8 Mile, Alabama (Mobile) needs to play more. The kid has outstanding moves. He was the one who dropped the TD pass in the endzone when he hit the ground and he had several good runs after catches. I think UF found a break away RB to replace Jordan Scarlett. True freshman Malik Davis did a nice job with his limited plays except for allowing the ball to be stripped from behind at the 1/2 yard line when he should have had a 74 yard TD run. Overall, it was a better game than I expected. The players thinned out as they are had more heart than me. It was good job to be in the game with 10 players out let alone win and cover the spread. I don't know why they keep calling this a "hail Mary"? A hail Mary is when you throw it in a general direction at multiple receivers , and hope one of them catches it.Franks saw that Cleveland had a step on the defender , and threw a perfect strike. Plus I might add not the first long ball perfect throw he's done in 2 games. I think we have a rather good QB now. He just needs more people to throw it to.

I agree and have been wondering the same thing. A hail mary is "toss into the end zone and hope" ..Uf called a designed play that worked....thats the reason I pointed out what a stupid play call made by our DC .... Bg(surrender yardage between the line of scrimmage and goal line...defend the end zone @ all cost)VolFan I finally got around to watching McElwain's post game interview. The play was designed to go shorter and out to about 25 yards and had a deep receiver threat. It's the same play UF ran two years ago when Antonio Callaway took a shorter throw to the endzone when Brandon Powell took out 3 UT defenders with 1 block. The UT CB came up and covered the shorter receiver and let Tyree Cleveland go one on one with the UT safety who proceeded to not stay deeper than the deepest by taking a bad angle to Cleveland which allowed the TD catch on a perfectly thrown ball that went 70 yards in the air. Had the short route receiver been given the catch and run to the sideline, UF would have called timeout to set up for a 60+- yard FG which is in makeable range by PK Eddy Pineiro. Rather than give UF a chance to win 23-20 on a walk off FG, the vols defense covered the short receiver allowing UF to walk off covering the spread at 26-20. It was a win win for UF. I don't know what the UT defense could have done. If UF hit the shorter pass and then kicked a 60 yard FG for the win, you'd be just as upset today as with what happened yesterday.

Unbelievable! Florida wins on a Hail Mary 63 yard pass play to the endzone to cover the spread by 1 point in a 26-20 win. It was a win win day for the Gators. UT played their hearts out, but it was the Hail Mary short of being enough. I believe that's called a "back door cover"in betting terms, when a big favorite allows a late score for the underdog to lose but beat the spread, that is a back door cover. as for ut-uf it was more like leaving then a k door wide open.

Doug Flutie won a heisman because the Miami D coordinator didn't tell the back 8 to be at the end zone. That one play made by Flutie cost Keith Byars the heismanI still see it differently. That one call by the miami defensive coordinator cost Byars the heisman. anybody can throw the ball downfield to an uncovered receiver.........well, anybody other than a stinkin drunk Steve Belisari

Bg(surrender yardage between the line of scrimmage and goal line...defend the end zone @ all cost)VolFan If you have a QB that can drop it on a "dime", can move a bit to create some time, who can throw it as high and far as a punt (Aaron Rodgers), with a good receiver, it's a "50-50" ball that some just do better than others. But in most cases it's just karma. But in Tn case a guy or two just didn't stay as deep as the deepest guy.
