I'm curious. There are a lot of family traditions. Mind always had turkey, but some do ham, others do rib roasts. I have a friend who grew up in an east coast Italian family that does ravioli and lasagna. I have friends with Mexican roots who do tamales to die for. What are your traditional family meals?

Turkey AND ham, eh? Seems like a weird combination to me, but I asked a friend of mine from Wisconsin yesterday and he said the same thing.

Used to have........quail, pheasant, venison, turtle soup, etc. Never had turkey until I was a teenager. served up venison as well as the bird up til a few years ago. in-laws will be bringing ham as well as some other sides. Will be seating 40-45 for dinner here. I'm doing the bird, potatoes, dressing and stuffing, butternut squash soup, gravy, pecan pies, pre meal munchies to occupy their time, and to keep them out of my damn kitchen while I'm cooking.

Kitchen smells like pecan pies baking.....coming out in about 10 minutes, have the stuffing/dressing mixed, the butternut squash soup is getting it's first cook down. will chill it, and then second cook it tomorrow. Bird goes in oven at midnight @250, will be perfectly done by mid morning. got 10lbs of potatoes to peel and cook tomorrow, along with Broccoli salad, and then 3 types of gravy.

That is awesome!!! Nothing like having a huge family gathering for the Holidays. The last 3 years we have headed to the desert just before Christmas and have celebrated Christmas early with the kids and grandkids. We both miss the traditional time we have we our family and friends and may start delaying our visit to the Southwest until after the 25th. We have always had ham, roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberries, homemade yeast dinner rolls, green beans with mushrooms and onion rings, and my favorite, scalloped corn with oysters!!!! Merry Christmas everyone!!!
