It's obvious he saw what was going on from outside. Walking in with them behind the counter could have led to a hostage situation and/or instant shootout. Now you know why he is a rent-a-cop and not a real one.

Until we sold the bait and tackle/convenience store, we had a sign on the front door stating NO HOODIES ALLOWED! If anyone (even someone we recognized as a regular customer) came in wearing a hoodie, they were told to leave.

The local thugs ignore it and no one says a word to them. It used to have a "no guns" sign, but I ignored that one myself. I always carried concealed until the day the 3 B.R. cops were murdered by the nutcase. After that, I put the black band on my badge and carried openly as a show of support. All I got was "we didn't know you're a cop." I answered truthfully that I am retired.
After the mourning period, I returned to concealed carry.

Nice in and out. All meat. That would have been too complex to fake unless they were real good at movie stuff.

Our store was about 1/4 mile from the county line. When the two counties had a prisoner exchange they would meet in the parking lot. Local and state police also knew we provided free coffee and fountain drinks for law enforcement so they stopped by often. Our deli cooks gave then free breakfast or lunch as well. The local scofflaws would call the store to check for cops before coming in for smokes or munchies. We always said there were none there, but (to our surprise) they sometimes pulled in just after we hung up.

When I first went on the job in 1981, there were 2 local stores that allowed officers to help themselves to snacks like honeybuns, or such, gratis. Believe it or not, there were DEPUTIES who would bring their wives in and load up shopping bags for free! Needless to say, the greedy fluk kers ruined it for everyone. The Sheriff ddin't pay them worth a damn.
Believe it or not, when I went to work, my tiny department had the highest starting salary of ALL police departments in the state! IIRC, it was something like $767 a MONTH. You didn't do the job for the money. I left a plant job making over twice that much to be a cop. It was tough --- I was married, had two kids already and another born in 1982, and we did NOT qualify for food stamps. LOL Funny though, the blacks in the parish had no problem getting them, even the ones I arrested for selling drugs.
