The problem has been clearly linked to gun sales and gun ownership rates in the U.S. As one example, we have roughly the same prevalence of mental illness as other G-7 nations with much lower homicide rates--indicating that mental illness is not the essential factor in our sky high homicide rates. As for "simple minds," what is YOUR solution? I've said several times that a "the" solution does not exist. But, I do know things have to be done with reality in mind. BTW, your self serving bullshit above "indicates" no such thing. What it "indicates" is you jerking yourself off yet again, trying to sound profound. Your NRA phobia is just more of your bumper sticker bullshit. This isn't a linear problem, it's got many levels, which makes it out of your league to understand. Stick to what you're good at...i.e. donkey f-ing midgets.Harry, It's over your head, but try to think of it as an analytic algebra equation with variables and constants. Which variables in the equation account for the vastly increased rate of gun-related homicides in the U.S., compared to comparable G-7 nations? Rates of mental illness? Uh, nope... Violent movies? Nope... Rates of gun ownership. Hmmm... So, my use of the word, "indicates" was precisely the opposite of what you claimed. It was precise and accurate-- as the John Hopkins study from Missouri that I posted for you guys indicated. You lose again.

How many of the 300 million in private hands will you remove? And, more to the point, how will you remove them? Along the way, deal with the Constitutional issue. We have a Second Amendment, those other countries don't, but you knew that, right?

Why is it that gun enthusiasts do not want to police their own? Why is that? The Florida kid did everything legally, gun zealots get a black eye in the court of public opinion because of his actions, and yet they defend the process that gave them the black eye. WHY DO THAT?

Because everytime the gun nuts give an inch, the anti gun nuts want a mile. And everytime the ani gun nuts give an inch, the gun nuts want a mile. It's no different than this board, a bunch of 7 year olds hurling insults at each other and never trying to actually come to a compromise. After all, it's far more fun to yell "Stupid Face" at the people you disagree with than actually talk to them.

The Second Amendment needs to be properly interpreted, or revised-- to stop the worsening epidemic of gun-related homicides in the U.S.
Most physicians in the U.S. believe that much, from a public health standpoint.
As for getting rid of the guns-- it worked in Australia.
What's your solution-- to continue to do nothing, while our kids are being massacred in schools?

The Second Amendment needs to be properly interpreted, or revised-- to stop the worsening epidemic of gun-related homicides in the U.S. What does "properly interpreted" mean?
Most physicians in the U.S. believe that much, from a public health standpoint. Thanks for the info, but it's meaningless in this discussion. As for getting rid of the guns-- it worked in Australia. This isn't Australia. We have 50 states, a Second Amendment and 300 million guns. They had 6 states, no Second Amendment and 3 million guns. Their realities were far different than ours and using Australia as an example is you, yet again, jerking yourself off trying to appear profound. What's your solution-- to continue to do nothing, while our kids are being massacred in schools? Have said several times I don't believe there is a "solution" based on our realities as I said above. We will never completely eliminate mass shootings. That said, I have no fundamental issue with some of the proposals out there re: guns...background checks, no bump stocks, longer wait periods, no ghost guns and even limits on LCM's. And I also think the bigger issue is societal. If I had my way there would be mandatory gun training in every public high school in the country. I believe that would prevent some of the shit going on these days. Some, not all. I also believe the gun control focus should be more on handguns, not so-called "assault" weapons. The AR-15 is the poster child for the gun control crowd, but it's a phony narrative imo.

As for your "societal" concerns-- what do you think about the role of NRA propaganda and bribery in perpetuating our epidemic of gun violence in the U.S.?
How is it qualitatively different from the historical role of tobacco industry propaganda (advertising) and political bribery in perpetuating cancer in the U.S.?
Explain, without resorting to simple NRA "bumper sticker" slogans.

So, you disagree with Reagan, then, about banning assault rifles? Here's what he said. “I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense,” he said. “But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.” Machine guns are heavily regulated, but you knew that, right? As for your "societal" concerns-- what do you think about the role of NRA propaganda and bribery in perpetuating our epidemic of gun violence in the U.S.? The NRA is your bogeyman. Amusing to watch you trip all over yourself anytime they are mentioned. Your mindless meme is a good example. How is it qualitatively different from the historical role of tobacco industry propaganda (advertising) and political bribery in perpetuating cancer in the U.S.? There goes that fake profundity again. Explain, without resorting to simple NRA "bumper sticker" slogans. I don't use bumper sticker slogans. Pity for you, as it's all you understand.

You get an "F" in Rebuttal class today, Harry. The NRA should be one of the main boogeymen in our debates about mass shootings. They have our politicians in a headlock on gun control legislation. Another culprit is the wing nut media. It's similar to the GOP/industry/media war on the science of climatology.

But the subject of this thread is the control of the GOP Congress and White House by the NRA on legislation that would reduce mass shootings. Try to stay on topic, Cheese Burgher.
