UCLA's Peng Peng Lee was phenomenal getting 10s on her final two events and proved to be the difference over Oklahoma, Florida, and LSU: www.gatorsports.com/2018/04/uf-finishes-third-at-ncaa-gymnastics-championships/The final scores: 1. UCLA 198.075; 2. Oklahoma 198.0375; 3. Florida 197.85; 4. LSU 197.8375 ;5. Utah 196.90; 6. Nebraska 196.80. Florida finished 3rd for a second year in a row .225 off the pace. Given that senior experienced All-American Kennedy Baker tore her Achilles heel at midseason, the Gators did as well as they could without getting help from UCLA and Oklahoma of which they got none. Going into the final rotation, I expected Florida to finish 4th, but the Gators did better than they usually do finishing up on the floor. I couldn't be prouder of the fight the Gators showed. LSU had a heckuva meet, but they had some great vaults that were interspersed with some not so great vaults on the last rotation which dropped them out of a chance to win the national championship. UCLA and Oklahoma? This meet reminds me of the year Florida and Oklahoma tied for the national championship. Except for Peng Peng Lee truly being perfect in two routines, this could have easily been a tie. Lee is a 23 year old senior. From what I saw of her yesterday and today, she is the nations top collegiate women's gymnast. Sophomore Maggie Nichols of Oklahoma is great, but Lee is greater, at least in the Super 6 when it mattered most. Lee reminds me of Bridgett Sloan who led Florida to 3 straight NCAA championships. She attacks her routines with abandon and is the leader of the team. UCLA has a huge hole to fill with her graduation. Utah finished 5th and Nebraska finished 6th with both well off the pace set by the top 4 teams.

Disappointed at OU finishing second, but if it took two 10's to do it, can't complain too much. OU's men's team finished first, so all in all, a good night for OU sports.

Any of the top 4 teams could have won. Oklahoma was outstanding, but UCLA led by Peng Peng Lee's two 10s was slightly better. There just wasn't a heckuva lot of difference between the top 4 teams in the Super 6. I'd really like to see UF pick up both men's gymnastics and men's volleyball. I don't know how Title IX would be impacted, but UF fans would definitely support both sports in large numbers.
