This is a very interesting chapter in Civil War history *-- especially in the Colorado Indian Territory, where Confederates were involved in trying to mobilize the indigenous Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Arapaho to attack settlers and Union forts during the Civil War.
In Lt. Eugene Ware's firsthand narrative, The Indian War of 1864, (in Colorado) he recounts an incident in which he and his 7th Iowa Calvary regiment "liberated" about 400 slaves near the Arkansas/Oklahoma border.
* Six months after the start of the Civil War, the Cherokee Nation made a declaration of causes for joining up with the Confederacy: “The war now raging is a war of Northern cupidity and fanaticism against the institution of African servitude,” they wrote, “against the commercial freedom of the South, and against the political freedom of the States.”

Your subject line kind of alludes to the song, which has a mixed history that I myself just found out... After the Beatles hit America, and local bands tried to cash in, I played with a couple local groups that tried to catch on as well...at our age, we we never able to keep a decent singer, and beat around trying to catch on with somebody/ANYbody... Anyway, during one attempt, when I was trying to play drums and sing, our bass guitar player brought in the music to Cherokee Nation, and thought I'd like it as I'm part Indian. At first, I thought "YEAH MAN" ...and that it was cool... At least until I got into the lyics... As it turns out, the lyrics read: Took away our ways of life The tomahawk and the bow and knife. The hand written lyics i'd been given read differently... They took away our way of life The tomahawk and the bowie knife I refused to sing the song again...which really pissed me off, because I did like the song, & at the time, my voice was ok with it and I sang it well (for me <g>) so I changed the lyic, to "...and the deer-bone knife." and we started doing it again... then I matured a little bit more, my voice started cracking, and I was done singing....

"... a war of Northern cupidity... against the institution of African servitude?" How ironic is that shit? It reminds me of many Bamorin posts.

Wouldn't surprise me if she did have some Indian blood...that said, she's a convenient Indian. Seems she first discovered her "heritage" when it was useful at Harvard, and she seems to re-discover it every election cycle.

Seems she first discovered her "heritage" when it was useful at Harvard, and she seems to re-discover it every election cycle. Only a couple of stupid, unethical Trump trolls would be ridiculing someone who is, arguably, the most intelligent, conscientious candidate for POTUS in the country today. My favorite Elizabeth Warren quote is her question about why the U.S. government views working class college students as potentially lucrative revenue sources for predatory lenders, while offering discounted interest rates to sleazy bankers. The only other presidential candidate in the country who has been questioning the deeply flawed policies of our military-industrial Robber Baron plutocracy lately is Bernie Sanders.
