This morning, I decided that a bagel and cream cheese was in order. Toasted the bagel, but when I opened up the CC, it had some mold spots, so I tossed it and used butter and jelly instead. As I was eating it, the thought struck me that I do not think I have ever seen mold on butter. Why is that? Anyone ever toss moldy butter?

I've seen and smelled rancid butter, but can't recall moldy butter.

Never seen moldy butter, but I'm inordinately fond of moldy bleu cheese and, especially, moldy Bavarian triple cream cheese.

Butter must not have any of whatever it is mold likes to eat.

Butter doesn't last long enough at our house to get moldy or rancid. As for the cream cheese, I would have scraped off the mold, smelled the CC, and eaten it if it passed the smell test. I usually trim the mold off the edge of the last 2 slices of cheese or bread before making a grilled cheese sandwich to go with my chili.

I've never seen moldy butter, just rancid. But Google is our friend. My guess is there were bread crumbs it grew on, not the butter itself.

"I got brown sandwiches and green sandwiches." "What are the green sandwiches?" "It's either very new cheese or very old meat."
