Trump in the WH, McConnell in the Senate and Ryan in the House have managed an extraordinary feat that, I am guessing, Sam Brownback is proud of. They have managed to run up massive deficits during relatively good economic times. www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/u-s-budget-deficit-this-year-already-21-higher-than-last-year/"The Trump administration last month sharply revised upward its deficit estimates, projecting annual deficits will once again top $1 trillion in the 2019 budget year, climbing to $1.1 trillion, and remaining above $1 trillion for three years." Gee...who coulda seen that coming when Republicans passed tax cuts?

Gee...who coulda seen that coming when Republicans passed tax cuts? Well, certainly not Obama and all you Liberal Loonies when he, with a Democrat-controlled Congress, passed tax cuts AND massive spending bills and increased national debt by over $1.1 trillion over his eight years in office. Here's your link:www.thebalance.com/us-debt-by-president-by-dollar-and-percent-3306296Barack Obama: Under President Obama, the national debt grew the most dollar-wise. He added $8.588 trillion. This 74 percent increase was the fifth-largest. Obama's budgets included the economic stimulus package. It added $787 billion by cutting taxes, extending unemployment benefits, and funding public works projects. The Obama tax cuts added $858 billion to the debt in two years. Obama's budget increased defense spending to between $700 billion and $800 billion a year. Federal income was down, thanks to lower tax receipts from the 2008 financial crisis. He also sponsored the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It was designed to reduce the debt by $143 billion over 10 years. But these savings didn't show up until the later years.

I am all for Keynesian stimuli during bad times. It has proven to work. Add in two wars that were inherited from Bush and there is justification for deficits. Now...no significantly expensive wars and no bad times. So what explains running a deficit today? Irresponsibility in governing, that is what.

Virtually all economists state that the first year of any new administration is affected by the budget and spending of the last years of the previous administration. That's why presidents have been judged beginning in in the second year of their administration. Obama and his deluded followers have never attributed the years 2010-2017 to Obama (except for some isolated statistics that showed the government in a good light) as to the increasing debt. Blaming the past president for events influenced by the current presidents policies for eight years shows how uninformed people were then. If what Trump does from 2018 until 2020 (or 2024? ) makes the economy better or worse, then give him the credit or blame. But do the same for Obama for the debt increases from 2010-2017.

What is the reason for a trillion in deficits in 2018? Heck, Republicans went out of their way to create more debt. Why?

Very similar to what happened in 2002, after Clinton had handed Bush and Cheney a budgetary surplus, and VERY realistic prospects of paying off the $5 trillion dollar national debt.
And, incredibly, many Republicans today still refuse to acknowledge the Bush-Cheney policy origins of our increased national debt before and AFTER 2009.

What is the purpose of a trillion dollar deficit with 4% unemployment and 4% growth last quarter? There isn't one. Now, you excused Obama by blaming his failure on two wars. I pointed out his lying about getting us out of those wars in his first year. So, you can't excuse Obama for his choosing to keep spending billions on those wars after he promised to get us out. Those deficits belong solely to Obama. Or, we will excuse Trump because the courts keep him from ending most of Obamas big spending fiascoes. See how your own games get thrown back at you?

To transfer an extra $1 trillion from the U.S. Treasury into the pockets of the President and his billionaire donors?
