Trump is getting hammered by the conservative media for wavering on his government shutdown threat.
That brings me to an interesting observation. When virtually the only support Trump has is the far-right of the Republican party, and he does ANYTHING to upset them, they immediately lash out at him.
"Trump will just have been a joke presidency who scammed the American people, amused the populists for a while, but he’ll have no legacy whatsoever" if he yields on the issue, columnist Ann Coulter told The Daily Caller "Well, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I'm not going to spin it. I wish I could but I can't. This is a cave. This was a blink," Michelle Malkin told "Fox and Friends."
Now Trump is caving to those claiming he caved, an odd paradox; he is considering reversing his...uh...reversal.
It occurs to me that Trump is stuck. He's been taken captive by the far-right and cannot function without their approval. The moment he doesn't get it, his support will completely collapse because he doesn't have any other constituency to fall back on. He has no legislative coalition past the Freedom Caucus, and even that's rapidly shrinking. And it's not like he can reach out and try to make a deal with moderates and hope to gain their support. Everybody hates the guy. He has no margin for error, no room to maneuver and no room to compromise. In short, he's boxed himself into a corner.

Good post. Trump's true "base" now is limited chiefly to extreme right wing bigots-- mainly from the South-- and big money interest groups who like their Trump tax cuts and de-regulation (including the hamstringing of environmental protections.) IMO, Trump is also still tacitly supported by Republicans in Congress (including Mitch McConnell, Grassley, Ryan, Nunes, McCarthy, Cornyn, and others). I noticed that Mitch McConnell, once again, blocked an effort in the Senate this week to protect the Mueller investigation from Trump.

Walt, let me ask you this: if a resolution was passed and funding for the wall has been around since Reagan, why has it not been built yet? And why do people believe .gov's lies?

Walter,
Stop editing my accurate posts. Learn something.
Are you falsely implying in your edit that Blavatnik didn't give Mitch McConnell $3.5 million from 2015-17?
Get real.

Uh...this wall has already been built. The Obama Admin. finished it in 2015. From Wiki: By May 2011, DHS reported completing 649 miles of fencing (99.5% of the 652 miles planned). The barrier was made up of 299 miles of vehicle barriers and 350 miles of pedestrian fence. The fencing includes a steel fence (varying in height between 18 and 26 feet) that divides the border towns of Nogales, Arizona in the U.S. and Nogales, Sonora in Mexico. A 2016 report by the Government Accountability Office confirmed that the government had completed the fence by 2015. A 2017 GAO report noted: "In addition to the 654 miles of primary fencing, CBP has also deployed additional layers of pedestrian fencing behind the primary border fencing, including 37 miles of secondary fencing and 14 miles of tertiary fencing."

I've already posted documentation (several times) for my argument that several key Republicons in Congress-- including Mitch McConnell-- are probably complicit in Russiagate.
Why didn't you ask for additional documentation before deleting my accurate sentence about that?
Here's one example of my documentation...

"It occurs to me...", infers a self-generated explanation of the reason certain events occurred, does it not? You are free to post your own opinion as to why Trump agreed to the Senate deal and then unagreed to it.

No. "It occurs to me..." implies that YOU have formed your own biased opinion that what you state is fact. You want to post opinion, go to the Politics opinion board. According to you, on this board statements are supposed to be backed up by fact. It seems that you once again have chosen to ignore your own rules because it suits your bias.
