Read this in an article criticizing some diatribe by Tucker Carlson on Fox. Notwithstanding the criticism itself or the diatribe, neither of which I am particularly interested in, a writer made an observation that seems to ring true about the state of conservatives and conservatism in America. He wrote: "...Carlson is advancing a form of victim-politics populism that takes a series of tectonic cultural changes—civil rights, women’s rights, a technological revolution as significant as the industrial revolution, the mass-scale loss of religious faith, the sexual revolution, etc.—and turns the negative or challenging aspects of those changes into an angry tale of what they are doing to you.”That, IMO, is a precise description of kooks like Limbaugh, Hannity, Trump and Co and what they are trying to sell us. Every problem has an obvious reason, an obvious perpetrator, and it's always somebody other than them. Liberals. Immigrants. The Media. Academia. Science. Hollywood. Professional athletes. Name the problem, and conservatives have an explanation for it, and there's always some institution or group that is the culprit, and it's never themselves. Here's the article: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/01/tucker-carlson/579460/

This also describes what some have referred as "the Party of No." Republicans in recent years have focused primarily on negative advertising memes-- about immigrants, blacks, the LGBT community, and various women. But they have no feasible policy solutions for the American people. Where is their healthcare plan? Their effective plan to reduce the Reaganomic national debt? A viable plan to improve the plight of the working class? They have no effective solutions.

Until then, it's yada, yada, yada.

There are very few bona fide conservative intellectuals in America today.
With the exception of a few intellectual libertarians, like Ron Unz, the term has almost become an oxymoron.

Ron Unz? Please... The Republican party are near collapse IMO. I predicted it in CA and it occurred, and I am predicting it nationwide. Conservatism has been hijacked by Redhats. It will take a decade, but conservative ideas haven't died. They simply need a new life, free of Redhat kooks. Repubs are beginning to reform in CA, free of right wing kooks, but it will take at least a decade to reestablish true conservatism in CA. Likewise, it will take probably 20 years to recover from Trump nationwide.

If whoever coined the word "Redhats" had copyrighted it, he would be a millionaire just from the royalties you would have paid in the last few months. We laugh at Nie der hut for his parroting of Left Wing Loonies in all his posts, but you are getting to be just like him. You should get an original thought sometime.

When I use it, you know who I'm talking about, so it's a good descriptor.

Have you studied his truly erudite, well-referenced American Pravda essays at the Unz Review?
