Certainly a noted passing, rip indeed. Read this and went over to see my neighbor who, at 95, is going reasonably strong w his spry 93 yr old wife. He flew B17s for the 8th in WW II and was looking down on the English Channel, as D-Day was unfolding. One of 33 missions. Went just to visit, chat, see if he needed anything and give him a heads up on Cole. They still live in their large colonial and do well. Grand/Great grand kids, kids visit often as do a cpl of neighbors, who keep an eye on things.
In Jan of this year he was one of three locally and the youngest, who received the French Legion of Honor for their participation in the liberation of France during World War II. Two 98 yr olds and a 95 yr old w a full head of hair. All live in their own homes.

Do it themselves until the very end, it seems. National treasures.

...he damned near made it... Thursday was the 77th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. 77th Anniversary celebration of the Doolittle Raid
Apr 18, 2019 Updated Apr 19, 2019 The ceremony celebrating the 77th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid during World War II was held at Ellsworth Air Force Base on Thursday. A B-25 Mitchell, the type of aircraft that took part in the raid, sits as a static display for people to tour and learn about. Author Craig Nelson spoke during the ceremony as did representatives from the current iterations of the four squadrons that took place in the raid, three of which are at Ellsworth.
