We're done with the regionals and super regionals. The Women's College World Series starts this Thursday night, 5/30, when Florida v. Oklahoma plays game one at 7 PM EDT on ESPN 2: www.ncaa.com/brackets/softball/d1/2019From the softball I've watched, I think the best of 3 series next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday if necessary will come down to 1 seed Oklahoma and 2 seed UCLA. They seem to be head and shoulders better than everybody when playing at their best. However, history has shown that the best don't always play their best in the WCWS. In their regionals, Oklahoma was stretched to a final game against Wisconsin and UCLA was stretched to a final game against Missouri. Defending national champion Florida State will be watching on television as they were upset in 3 in the Tallahassee super regional by Oklahoma State. The opening game of the series between Florida and Oklahoma State will be interesting as Florida HC Tim Walton and Oklahoma State HC Kenny Gajewski are best buds having played together on the 1994 Oklahoma Sooner national championship team. Gajewski was also an asst. coach for 3 years at Florida in 2013/2014/2015, the last 2 years when the Gators won the back to back 2014 and 2015 national championships. In 2017, Kenny brought his second Cowgirl team to the Gainesville super regional where they pushed the Gators to a game 3 before bowing out of the tournament.

How the 8 WCWS teams fared playing head to head:
1 Oklahoma: 3-1 2 UCLA: 8-2 3 Washington: 3-4 5 Florida: 4-5 6 Arizona: 4-7 7 Minnesota: 0-4 8 Alabama: 6-1 13 Oklahoma State: 0-4
Don't sleep on Alabama. They have a quality 3 deep pitching staff, hit for average and power, are fast on the base paths challenging defenses, and they have excellent coaching. Alabama swept Florida in 3 games in Gainesville, not even close, before the Gators got some revenge beating the Tide 2-1 to win the SEC tournament championship. JMHO, Florida should have been the 8 seed and Alabama the 5 seed based on head to head with Florida plus the consistency of winning the SEC regular season championship, the best top to bottom conference in college softball. Alabama opens with Oklahoma. In my mind, Oklahoma vs. Alabama is like the 5 seed playing the 1 seed. It should be a terrific game.

Make up of the WCWS by conference:
3 - PAC 12 2 - Big 12 2 - SEC 1 - B1G
Bracket 1 where all top 8 seeds won is a PAC 12 tournament plus Minnesota.
Bracket 2 became a conference showdown between the Big 12 and the SEC when Oklahoma State upset Florida State.
