I knew that would be the first common guess, but it is wrong, and too recent.
Thr Remington Nylon 66 was not the first plastic gun. It was introduced in 1959, long after the first one. Nylon 66 is actually the name of the plastic that formed the rifle's stocks.

The first, most successful and best known of the series was the Nylon 66 autoloader, introduced in 1959.
Still the wrong gun.
