1st bowl since '16 for the heels. 3 of unc's 6 losses were by a total of 10 pts. owls are mediocre on o, pretty good on d. temple was 5-1 ats this year getting points, and I'm not a fan of bowl chalk who had losing records the previous year.

sparty was one of '19's most disappointing teams, tho their d is still solid. wake was much better on offense, even if it was vs a weaker schedule. demon deacons are great bowl dog (6-1 ats) and msu has been a $$ loser (15-28 ats) of late as favorites.

texas a&m -7 vs oklahoma st.
ex-big 12 rivals who haven't met since '11. all 5 of the aggies' losses came vs 9+ win opponents. but all 7 wins came vs .500/less foes. cowboys' offense, even w/losing their best wr mid-season to a torn acl, is good enough to hang around.

iowa -2 vs usc
intriguing matchup. to seemingly a surprise to everyone except usc brass, clay helton remains the coach. both these teams won 5 of their last 6. hawks are real good on d, boring on offense. they won all 9 games where they were favored, lost all 3 (um, psu, uw) as dogs. big 10 has won 10 straight bowl games vs the pac 12, the left coasters are 2-20 ats/7-15 su the last 3 years in the post season, and 0-15 ats in those 3 years in bowls vs a team off a win.

couldn't have more polar opposites on offense. cougars led the nation in passing yds (444/game), falcons were 3rd in rushing (293/game). but wsu was a sieve on d (457/game allowed). the military schools are an impressive 34-14 ats in bowls lately, 8-1 ats w/records of .750+ (af went 10-2).

I'm surprised this number is so low. the irish have huge edges on d/special teams, and the cyclones only beat 1 bowl team this season despite scrapping every week (5 losses by a total of 23 pts, including 1 pt losses to iowa/oklahoma). 2 good qb's (Ian book, brock purdy) lead offenses that are pretty equal.

tigers and lions in dallas, oh my. memphis is dynamic on offense, the nitts are stout on d. psu was 1 of the most inexperienced teams in the country entering the season, and finishing 10-2 was a very good year. you'd think the tigers will have an emotional edge, playing in a major bowl vs a power 5 opponent. but w/head coach mike norvell gone to florida st., bowl dogs w/interim coaches who are off a win are just 3-13 ats of late. shaky nod to penn st.

I hear, from a very unreliable source, that EVERYONE is thinking the sooners will prevail here. shocking!! ou is 0-3 su in cfb playoff games, but 2-1 ats. the suspensions will affect a defense that is improved over last year, but having playoff experience vs an outstanding team who's there for the first time will matter some. being held up as the red headed step child of the 4 playoff teams will matter too. no doubt how hard to stop the lsu offense is (even if their starting rb is out w/injury), but... big 12 bowl teams as 10+ dogs are 10-1 ats... cfb playoff teams who won 11/less teams the previous season (like lsu) are 3-9 su/5-7 ats... and since 1984, unbeaten bowl teams w/a heisman winner are 0-5 ats as -10/more favorites.

2 offenses averaging 47+/game. 2 top 5 defenses. 2 teams who both enter feeling somehow disrespected. tosu was the 1st team in cfb history to run the table w/a 9 game league schedule. tigers were the 1st defending champ in half a century to go unbeaten the following season and not be #1 entering bowl season. I think the pressure will be on each team's o-lines to keep their qb clean, vs outstanding opposing d-lines. in terms of trends, since '09 the buckeyes are 15-2 ats (7-0 ats since '12). it's the dynamite matchup of the bowl season... and I think it comes down to the final possession.

l'villa went from 2 wins in '18 to 7 this year, but their d is awful, especially vs the run, which the bulldogs do well. though msu's bowl record as chalk (3-7 ats) makes me nervous...

cal may have the best defense nobody knew in '19. lovie smith getting the illini to a bowl deserved coach of the year recognition though finishing the season w/2 losses (1 to awful n'western) after becoming bowl eligible wasn't too attractive. but 6-6 bowl teams who lost their final 2 regular season games are 7-2 ats of late, and .500/less bowl teams are 15-3 ats vs foes off back/back su/ats wins.

florida -14.5 vs virginia
lots of orange in the orange bowl this year. uva allowed 310+ yds passing in 4 of its last 5 games. that's troublesome vs an improved gator offense.
