It helped that Michael Jordan came into the league in '84 when Stern became Commissioner and NBA interest was already on the rise when Bird & Magic entered the league in 1980. Everything he did behind the scenes certainly earned everybody's appreciated from Micheal, Scottie, Curry, Jabbar etc...

Hell, before they came into the league, the NBA finals were on tape delay, and not even televised live. |

True to that no doubt about their popularity saving the nba in america, but stern's work made it possible for the nba to have a global relevance, making future stars after larry/magic worldwide celebrities. when stern became commissioner in 1984 the nba was worth around $154 million. when he retired, it was worth over $5 billion. |
