Don't worry. New compatible phones will only cost $1500. Since when does a monopoly LOWER prices? Yeah, the service might be cheaper, but the hardware WON'T be.
P.T. Barnum still rules. How does this transaction create a monopoly? Your hyperbole on the phone prices is noted, too. When you have 2 giants joining forces, what would YOU call it?

Paying $800 for a phone when you can get one for free with the HSN TracFone deals is pure insanity.

A one year plan alone with no phone is $125. I get new/better phones all the time since it's cheaper than buying another year for my old phone.

When you have 2 giants joining forces, what would YOU call it?Even with the 3rd and 4th largest carriers combining in this deal, they still won't be the largest provider in the US so no, they won't be a monopoly. The FCC, DOJ and state AGs would never allow a monopoly.

Unless you are with Verizon, there really aren't any bad plans anymore, cost wise. But for those who use their phone for work or need it for other important things more regularly than the occasional call or browsing session, going with a Metro or Tracfone or whatever MVNO you choose comes with a cost due to network de-prioritization.

What cost? I've never had a problem calling, texting or browsing and I do a LOT of each every day. Calling not as much. IMO, anybody who pays $70/mo for service on top of paying $800 for the phone is a spendthrift when other far more inexpensive options are available.

There are a lot of factors that go into coverage but an MVNO is using another company's network thus at peak times or when congestion occurs, they get bumped first. May not always impact everyone all the time but it definitely happens and if someone relies on their phone to make a living, that can be costly.

Be that as it may I have never experienced getting dropped except when I inadvertently hang up the call myself. I've been using TracFone for about five years now.

My Sweetheart has used Straight Talk for about five years. I use my phone occasionally, but text my children and grandchildren quite a bit. We have had no problems with service. I pay $39 a month, taxes included. I can get unlimited data usage by paying more, but I don't download games or movies on my phone. Phone was free.
