Change the game?

The NBA ASG was playing with an intriguing concept of playing to a score rather than by time.
I think I like the idea.
First, it is more like the game played on every court in every park in America.
Second, it makes it more like baseball, where it ain't over til it's over no matter what the score.
Games could be played in, say, four 25 point quarters, and first to 100 wins the game. Winner of a quarter gets ball to start next quarter.

yeah it was different. the tbt summer tournament was similar, when after so long a 'target' score is established and the first one to make it wins. I can't watch the all-star game anymore because of the "ole' " defense that's played, but regular/playoff season that might be intriguing. the quarter wins could be more like winning tennis sets. you can lose more games than you win but if you win the best of 3 or best of 5 sets, that matters more.

They should also change the foul shot rules. In the first 10 minutes of each quarter, on any foul the fouled team/player gets one point and the ball out of bounds. After five fouls or any shooting foul, two points and the ball. In the final two minutes of each quarter, the fouled team gets one point and two foul shots. That should shorten games by 10 minutes or more.

I wouldn't favor that idea.

But here's one. Give the fouled player the option of a regular FT, or let him take an uncontested FT from the top of the 3 pt line and score the 3 if he makes it.

awarding a point for each foul puts a little too much power in the referees to determine the game's outcome imho. but you can put the foul shooters on their own shot clock (tennis has a clock for players to serve after the end of a previous point) instead of having the refs manually count them down. 5 seconds? or maybe 8 seconds for a 1st ft, 5 for the 2nd?

Put the officials on a clock as well. They get the ball, bounce it a few times, make all sorts of hand signals, bounce the ball to the shooter, then he does his routine.

Haven't watched an NBA game in awhile but is this a lengthy process now? They are responsible for a couple of things before they give the ball to the shooter (opposing team inside the 3pt line, platers set inside the key, etc.) but if they are taking excessively long or engaging in conversation, it is definitely an unnecessary delay.

FTs are part of the game. That's just a plain fact.
