My New Years Day menu will be:
Breakfast- hoecakes, eggs, sausage, sorghum syrup Lunch - turnip greens, blackeyed peas, cornbread Dinner - Hickory smoked ham, more turnip greens and blackeyed peas, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob.
I started the blackeyed peas today, and will cook them off and on till Tuesday morning, as they are best thrice-cooked. The turnip greens I picked from the garden today and will cook tomorrow, then reheat Monday for a while. The green beans and corn are in the freezer from the summer garden. I also have some squash left in the freezer so I might cook that up for dinner too. I have a nice ham hock for the peas and greens to add flavor

Cowboy, No wonder you're a fat bastard... You think too much about what you'll be shoveling down your gullet. One thing I will say for you, Cowboy-- at least you shovel down some fresh produce with all of that pig meat... "I got somethin' 'bout that pig meat..."

Fannie Lou,
You have to smack Cowboy around a little from time to time. It's the only thing that Georgia cracker ever understands.
P.S. I like your first name

Fannie, Cowboy is a salty old Georgia cracker at heart. He only stays in line if you horsewhip his cracker ass every so often, so's he know who da boss man be. We had grilled lobster tails with baked potatoes and creamed spinach.

For breakfast I made cinnamon-pecan rolls, scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon and mimosas. (More of a brunch, really)
For dinner we had the traditional black-eyed peas and field peas cooked with snaps and a ham bone, corn bread and collards.
I came down with pneumonia last week and although we got on top of it right away I've had to take it easy all week long, so no big fancy meal for New Years. Fortunately, there was lots of football to watch on TV and 5 days of rest so I'll be back at work tomorrow.

Glad you're doing better, Robb. Our peas and greens, and the pone of cornbread I made in my Grandmas cast iron skillet (107 years old and still cooking fine) were terrific.

Around here the traditional New Year's food is fresh caught Dungeness Crab and sourdough bread. A wonderful clam chowder for dessert. It's good to live around these parts.
