Gran Prix, the film, which opened in 1966, is still, imo, the finest movie ever made about racing. Depicting the life, times and racing of Formula 1 circa the early 60s. GRAN PRIX TRAILER
Somewhere in the top 10, Le Mans (1971) with Steve McQueen.

Of note involving high speed traveling, in April, a gent from Atlanta set a new record for the Cannonball Rally. Made it from LA to NYC in 26 hrs and 38 minutes. Still a bit slower than a SR-71 which went West Coast to East Coast in 67 min and 54 sec.

Apparently they had no clue about centrifugal force.
