I mentioned this a few weeks ago. Looks like some success.www.al.com/business/2020/04/uab-developed-drug-effective-against-covid-19-powers-strong-trading.htmlA drug developed at UAB showing early signs to be able to successfully fight against COVID-19 led to strong after-hours trading on the Dow Jones. Gilead Sciences shares jump 14 percent in after-hours trading and Dow Jones futures were up more than 700 points after a report that the drug Remdesivir was helping coronavirus patients rapidly recover in a Chicago hospital using the drug in a trial. Remdesivir was developed through research by UAB professor Richard Whitley and had previously shown to be effective against the virus in Wuhan, China, the source of the initial outbreak. Whitley recently said in a UAB story that the early success of Remdesivir “is a prime example of how the research we are conducting at UAB plays a critical role in treating patients on a global scale and our contribution of substantial scientific advances.” In another study published last Friday by the New England Journal of Medicine, more than two-thirds of of the 53 patients who received the drug showed improvement. Continued success with the drug could not only lead to more big days for Gilead but potentially be a big step in the country opening back up.
