The Germans then ruthlessly unloaded on the Dutch people who had welcomed their liberators with public demonstrations and all the assistance that an occupied people could give. Thousands of them starved as the Nazis vacuumed up all available food supplies and an unforgiving winter did the rest. A tragic story.
