Stories are circulating this week about Burger King serving horse meat in the U.K. www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/31/burger-king-horsemeat-admits-tainted_n_2593538.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular True story. A few months ago, at my request, my wife fixed some spaghetti marinara with Italian sausage-- one of my favorite things. She bought the Italian sausage at a local Whole Foods grocery store. I tasted the stuff and said, "Damn. This is horse meat." My wife and daughters thought I was being ridiculous at the dinner table, as I often am, but I know what horse meat tastes like, and I was certain that that Italian sausage had horse meat in it! (I ate horse meat once upon a time in my childhood-- long story.) Has anyone else had this unpleasant gustatory experience at Burger King or elsewhere lately?

Stories are circulating this week about Burger King serving horse meat in the U.K. I think feeding horse meat to the limey bastards is AOK .....They're definatly ill-mannered and disgusting people who not only can't utter a cohesive thought but also lack common courtesy normally displayed by a supposedly civilized culture.....They're certainly not as wholesome as the n-words, mexicans and meth heads we have as a majority .....I saw a program called drug Inc. on tv the other night (could only stomach about 10 minutes of it) and it detailed the EXTREMELY rampant cocaine problem they have over there....Almost EVERYBODY in London uses it !!! The guy said there is never a problem amongst dealers cause there is SO MUCH business that everybody is makin a fortune off dealing it.....losers

Well, Flatus, I have to confess that I have always liked Limeys. Can't say the same thing about horse meat, however. Yuck...

I'm not opposed to eating horse meat....but I am opposed to getting something other than what you pay for. As far as BK goes....I don't think I've been in one for at least 5 or 6 years......

In regards to ANY PLACE SERVING HORSEMEAT I have a problem with it. Our Government of assholes has been killing off thousands of wild mustangs simply using the excuse of controlling the herds. In reality we have only 35000 of these beautiful creatures left. They are herded by helicoptors and quads and killed in disgusting suffering ways. It is a waste. Not unlike the murdering of many of my kind. Do the research on the long walk. What was done was unconscionable!! nemikwaldamnana We remember!!

OK...I'm just curious why some people have a problem with others eating horse, as opposed to beef cattle, bison, buffalo, llama, alpaca.....all animals which are used in one way or another as beasts of burden and food. Why do you see horses differently than these other animals? (And just on a side note, horses aren't indigenous to the U.S., so does it matter that much if they are extinct in the American wilds?)

Why do you see horses differently than these other animals? (And just on a side note, horses aren't indigenous to the U.S., so does it matter that much if they are extinct in the American wilds?) Fair question. Horses are like big dogs. They comprehend words and commands. They like to hug. They will save your life if you treat them with love and respect. No they are not indigenous to the U S, they were brought over by the English and the Spaniards. Horses can live to be 50. Not all breeds, but some do. The oldest horse right now is 55. Most people believe a horse to be too old when they reach 25. In Iceland, they ban the bringing in any other horses to protect their Islandic horses, which are small, but a very durable, agile breed. Personally I love horses as much as big dogs. A horse is 1000 lbs of pure power with a loving personality. I would rather be out riding any day of the week, than living in a concrete world. When is the last time someone trained a cow, bison or llama to walk, trot, cantor or just come when they call. Alpaca's are bred for their hair. Much like sheep for their wool. Would you eat your dog?? Granted if I was desperate and starving, than I would say yes on eating horse meat. But rounding up the mustangs(which are fenced off of the highways) just so you can take the herds from 100,000 down to 35,000 and say your helping is just plain wrong. And the horse meat is only given to dogs. Not the people. www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/vanishing-mustangs-are-americas-wild-horses-danger-disappearing.html"Difficult and cruel round-ups continue to this day as pressures against wild horses persist. Decades after it was recognized that the wild horse was in danger of disappearing, the mustang is still on the chopping block. Since the WFHBA passed, rangeland designated for wild horses and burros has declined by 21.5 million acres. Today, there are fewer than 35,000 wild horses on some 27 million acres of federally managed land while millions of head of privately-owned cattle graze across some 245 million acres of public lands, including those acres designated for wild horses." If you want to read the truth about this with documentation see;www.kaufmanzoning.net/I won't do a c & p, because the article is too lengthy for here. In this article you can see the real truth about the torture these poor animals are put through. All for the sake of "controlling the herds"

An ex-boss of mine bought 2 a few years back, and his wife got the idea that since they were able to get a saddle on one they were ready to ride. Bad mistake. Lets just say she had to be air-lifted to a local hospital. She survived her injury's , but will not ride again. From what I heard both horses were back at the auction the following week.

Much like any wild animal, they need to trust you first. That takes time. I have heard that its easier to break mustangs in water. You need a team to help keep the horse in the water while you get on. At least the falling off is much safer. Sorry to hear about your ex-boss's wife. Hopefully she has found another way to be around horses. I know a woman who does photography of them and does books of the pictures.

We had a P.O.A. (Ponies of America) which is basically the size of a mustang. She was a 3 yr. old and green broke when we got her. Meanest horse I've ever been around. The bitch bit me, stood on my foot and a leaned into it, kicked me, and bucked me off numerous times while trying to kick me in the head on the way down. The horse was untrainable. Every time it broke into a cantor from a fast trot it would start bucking.
