On occasion I catch a piece on You Tube of Neil deGrasse Tyson, who I find interesting. He does gigs on Rogan which are pretty good. Not a big fan of Rogan but when he gets NDT on he dummies up and lets NDT take off on a myriad of subjects.

So I kept thinking about this space-time thing, and thought...okay, if gravity does not exist and I am being pushed along by the normal force of the Earth slamming into the bottom of my feet at 9.8m/sec, then what about the guy of the other side of the planet? Isn't The Earth moving in the opposite direction, AWAY from the bottom of his feet?

12 min segment, out of what was a 2hr 20min show, about, mostly, gravity. Between Rogan and Neil deGrasse Tyson. It may or may not be interesting to you but here it is. When it was filmed, I think NDT was on the circuit mentioning his new book. Anyway, not being a scientist, NDT speaks simply enough to resonate w my ear.

I agree that it is strange, but the Newtonian formulation of gravity as a force does, in fact, explain the physics of terrestrial phenomena quite precisely.

Newton simply didn't grasp the cosmic space-time basis of what we experience and describe as gravitational "force."

And, BTW, there are a lot of strange ramifications of Einstein's theories about the space-time continuum.

One is that time is a function of the expanding space-time continuum, and passes at vastly different rates at different points in the universe.

For example, if time is measured way out here on earth, roughly 15 billion years have passed since the theoretical Big Bang at t=0.

But, if time is measured at the point in the universe where the Big Bang occurred, only about six 24 hour "days" have passed during the past 15 billion years of earth time.

How do we wrap our heads around that one?
