My family wasn't aware of this until recently


Our family dog was diagnosed with bone cancer back in March and was given less than 2 months to live

He fought clear to Thanksgiving. However it got real bad and it was clear it was time to end his pain and suffering

So on Tuesday November 23rd we made the decision to do so.

But we found out that real human funeral homes actually do pets as well. They will come to your home and pick them up and do as you wish.

The one we used was extremely nice and they even do obituaries for your pet

Sorry for you loss but a funeral home and obituary? For a dog? Is this a joke?

My sympathies to you and your family...it's so tough to let go of a pet, and having to euthanize one is incredibly difficult. It's an experience you never forget. Dogs truly become part of the family and it's often harder to let them go than it is some people.

A vet once told me that he believed dogs somehow instinctively fill whatever holes or voids you might have inside of you...it's their purpose and that's why they get so close to you and why it's so hard to let them go.  They know who you really are and they are still unconditionally devoted. Had never thought of it that way, but it made a lot of sense to me.

Anyway, deepest sympathies on losing Kayne. I know how hard it is to say goodbye, even when it's the right thing to do.

I think we waited too long. My parents just couldn't let him go. My mom even as the vet was there to do it kept asking if it was time are we sure it's time

It's hard.

It's damn hard. You don't want to do it too early, or too late. Problem is there's no manual to tell you what's the right time.

Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk. Drive around for a bit. Stop. Open the trunk and see who licks you when they see you. Add-in, make sure your wife isn't a conceal and carry believer.

Sorry for the loss. I've had to put a few dogs down over the years. It never gets easier. In my experience, you can often tell when they're ready.

Our last one, which will be our last one according to my wife, which was really the boy's dog, the vet told me, when I asked, "you'll know". And it's an individual decision. But I knew. Having gone through it a few times and probably waited too long once. But the other half of the ready part is the pet owner, perhaps.
