Omicron Update: Day #4 So, I'm on Day #4 with the Omicron virus. Still experiencing a little bronchitis and scratchy throat. I was able to walk around the park yesterday, slowly -- giving pedestrians a wide berth. As Neil Young said in 12 bars... "Good times are coming, I hear it everywhere I go. (repeat x 1)
Good times are coming, but they're sure coming slow."
Glad you are feeling better

Glad you are feeling better Thanks, Daleko. I'm feeling better this morning. Just a slight cough. Here's the latest on Omicron from Dr. Craig Spencer and WaPo.Healthy, boosted people unlikely to develop severe omicron infections, but jury’s out on older, at-risk populations The new variant has sent U.S. infections soaring, but a smaller share than with delta are resulting in hospitalization.www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/12/28/omicron-how-severe-us/
December 28, 2021 Excerpt
"The welcome news for most people who are vaccinated and boosted is that omicron infections often mimic the symptoms of the common cold. Those with two shots of vaccine, but no booster, also appear to fare relatively well, though they may develop more intense symptoms that may last longer, experts said.
Of the 205 million Americans who have been vaccinated, about 66 million, or 32 percent, have received a booster dose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In a series of Twitter posts, Craig Spencer, who teaches emergency medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, said every boosted patient he has seen in the emergency room has had no difficulty breathing or shortness of breath. Those who have had two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines also have had mild symptoms, he said, “but more than those who had received a third dose.”
But almost every patient who had to be hospitalized was unvaccinated, he said.
“No matter your political affiliation, or thoughts on masks, or where you live in this country, as an ER doctor you’d trust with your life if you rolled into my emergency room at 3am, I promise you that you’d rather face the oncoming Omicron wave vaccinated,” Spencer wrote."

U.S. reports nearly 500,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/u-s-reports-nearly-500-000-covid-19-cases-in-a-single-day/ar-AASi6E2?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531
December 30, 2021 The U.S. reported nearly half a million new COVID infections in a single day, marking the largest daily total of any country during the pandemic. More than 486,000 new cases were reported in a 24-hour period, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday. Fifteen states reported a record-high number of average daily infections: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington. Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., are also averaging more daily cases than ever. With COVID-19 cases rising so fast, fueled by the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, it's estimated that more than three Americans are testing positive every second, according to CDC data. In New York, cases are up 11% since Wednesday. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since September, with more than 81,000 COVID patients hospitalized nationwide, according to the CDC. A CDC model suggests more than 42,000 Americans could die in the next three weeks. "We are at the very beginning, unfortunately, and likely have at least four to eight weeks before we're going to see it rise and then begin to fall again. And during that time, we are going to see COVID activity in this country like we haven't seen since the beginning of the pandemic," Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist at the University of Minnesota, told CBS News.

I don't know how typical my experience with Omicron has been for vaccinated people, but I've recovered fully by Day 10 today. No symptoms.
As the pathology reports from around the planet are showing, my Omicron symptoms were largely upper respiratory-- a bit of bronchitis, scratchy throat, and sinusitis-- without progression to pneumonia and shortness of breath.
Never lost my sense of taste. I did experience some transient trigeminal nerve inflammation and left-sided facial twitching on Day (?) 3 or 4. Somewhat creepy, but short-lived.
I notice some residual fatigue, and it will take me awhile to get back in shape for skiing, after spending most of the past ten days resting in bed and in chairs.
I had to shovel half a foot of snow in 7 degree F weather on New Year's Day, and that set me back for a couple of days with a worsening cough.
Not sure how my bout of Omicron will compare with those of the unvaccinated.
A recent study from Sweden showed a strong T-cell response to Omicron infection in vaccinated people, but an insufficient initial antibody response to prevent infection.
Some Israeli doctors said recently that they think everyone in Israel will eventually catch Omicron, despite being fully vaccinated.
Stay safe, fellas.

Just asking, mind you as I am 3x vaxxed. Forget for the moment all of the tragic deaths that are primarily attributed to COVID , historical. What is the death rate today on the unvaxxed? Just curious. Is it the same as in the beginning? The dead are just that. Let the dead bury the dead. So far, it has been fairly consistent; about 1.6% death rate. This omicron variant looks to be a bit less lethal, though the data is not all in yet. If mutation ends up making it no more deadly than regular flu, that would be the best news possible. It may become just another flu type that we all get a shot for every fall. I had Omicron over Christmas, took about 10 days to test negative. Overall, not too bad, but still no fun. Was limited to nose and throat, but do still have slight lingering cough.

I dont know, im talking about ivermectin So, countries and doctors are not saying 'the opposite'. Being vaccinated is far safer than being unvaccinated, just as the CDC chart says. Is the CDC my personal doctor?. Does the CDC know my medical history?

Ive never had one single flu shot in 56 years I hadn't either at that age. I think I got my first about about 62 or 63. My doctor suggested it and I said something like, "Flu shot? That's for old people.", to which he replied something like, "Yeah...it is." You youngsters will eventually come around. I am your age, and I don't take flu shots. I never get the flu, either.

That's just an opinion at this point. We can't definitely say so until we have long term data to look at. Personally, I feel comfortable with the mRNA Vax. Took it as did my wife and all my kids. But I respect the concerns of those who want to see the data. That is actually the science.

There is some research ongoing, to possibly connect that over 100yrs. Are first and second gen or even third spawn of survivors who were minimally impacted or were impacted but survived the Spanish Flu, less impacted by COVID or any of the other YTD pandemics? Life finds a way.

Life finds a way. I haven't seen that. I'll see if I can find something on it. We lost my maternal grandmother in 1918 to that flu. They said my mother, then 2 years old, was in the bed with her but never developed any symptoms. Go figure. We had just this week the closest contact with covid we have had. Picked up our granddaughter last Friday and my ex-DiL was sick, masked up and said she had tested negative that day. Sunday the gd started to feel sick just a few hours before we took her back. Then got a call Monday morning from the ex Dil saying she had tested positive on Saturday (thanks for calling) and our gd had tested positive Monday morning. So we have been laying low, staying at home since. Had planned to hit our favorite German restaurant on Monday so that really sucked. Neither of us has shown any sign of infection, both vaxed and boosted recently, so who knows. Her dad felt sick for one day and that was it and she, the gd was feeling better by Tuesday afternoon (12 yo).
