Maybe if blacks were smart enough to not get caught smoking it, their arrest rate would be lower.

Maybe so, but quality could be suspect. Although my experience with California crop....it far surpasses Florida in quality.

At this point in my life, when it comes to family, I'd only buy from a licensed dispensary.

I have no problem with treating marijuana like alcohol, but there is no instant presumptive chemical test to determine if someone is operating a motor vehicle under its influence, nor am I aware of any physical field sobriety test for it.   But I've been retired for 14 years, so maybe someone has developed a FST by now.
All I know is that if we are going to legalize it, we must find a way to deter people from driving, flying, performing surgery, etc., while stoned.

What deterrent do we need beyond a law saying it is illegal? The presumptive tests aren't the deterrent...they're only the methods to determine intoxication.

That's what we do for alcohol. All the tests do is create a presumption. A person can certainly still be charged and convicted of DUI without performing a field sobriety or blowing a breathalyzer.

And if there was a need for an instant test, I'd wager one could be developed pretty fast. In fact, there's articles out there about tests having already been developed, but I have no idea how they work, or how accurate they are.

I'm almost positive they have a field sobriety test for it out here. The down side is that THC stays in your system for thirty days so you could've had a few tokes at a party 3 weeks ago and get pulled over today for pot intoxication.
