Does YOUR college even HAVE a rifle team? I can't find any evidence that LSU does. It's an Olympic sport. Why is it not a generally accepted collegiate sport?

Interesting Q and I had to look it up. It appears 17 states have teams, at various levels for small bore/pellet rifle, incl the state of NY. 24 men's and 29 women's. The Ohio State U has a team. Scholly limit Div 1 is 3.6/team each so they partial it out to 7-8 shooters, each sex. Interestingly Sporting shotgun, action shooting, larger bore rifle are not sanctioned by the NCAA but rather the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) which are operated by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation. If you include both there are another 53 schools w both sex teams.

That's a lot of research to get to the truth.

I'd guess it has more to do with general interest...sorta like hockey in Louisiana.

REALLY interesting letter from U-ARIZONA women's swim team to the NCAA re: Thomas. I gotta say, at this point, I have to agree with them. Regardless of what one thinks about transgender athletes, Thomas had the benefit of a decade of muscle development with massively higher levels of testosterone than any woman. As such it constitutes an unfair advantage even if that flow has recently been curtailed. That is the best argument against letting Thomas compete with women that I have heard so far. I don't know how one can be fair to Thomas in this, but it is pretty obvious it is unfair to the rest of women's swimming.

A lot of options to live as a F, which I have no problem w. Competitive swimming isn’t one of them. NCAA dropped the ball for whatever reason. I agree w your posted assessment.

If Thomas had made the decision as a preteen age-grouper and had no physiological advantage in muscle hormone (testosterone) over the years of 5k yards/day dev. period, an argument could be made for a level playing field. But that isn't what happened.

To be fair to Thomas is to require him to compete with other biological males. See how simple that is?
Mental illness has nothing to do with physical ability.
Let's turn it around .............. How many female swimmers want to compete with men? Why not?

That makes the point about the unfairness. Perhaps trans women-to-men do compete, but are not a threat to the men. In that case, I bet you would say, "Oh hell yeah, let 'em compete! Go ahead. Knock yourself out." So it is not about transgenderism (if that is a word). It is about competitive fairness. Do you agree?

If a biological female wants to compete with biological males, knowing that she is physically inferior, go for it. In fact, they have been doing THAT for years.
So do you think it is fair for the Denver Broncos to play the USC Trojans?
It doesn't matter what you look like, how you dress, or who you sleep with. People are born as either males or females, and you cannot change that. And males, by design, are physically superior to females almost all the time.
It's simple. If you have male chromosomes (stronger), you are not allowed to compete in sports with people who have female chromosomes (weaker).
Do you believe in science or not?

It's the intersection of inclusion and fairness and it all of sudden became murky. It's been interesting (to me at least) to see some of the inclusion folks having second thoughts. Kind of refreshing, actually.
