That makes the point about the unfairness. Perhaps trans women-to-men do compete, but are not a threat to the men. In that case, I bet you would say, "Oh hell yeah, let 'em compete! Go ahead. Knock yourself out." So it is not about transgenderism (if that is a word). It is about competitive fairness. Do you agree? It's the intersection of inclusion and fairness and it all of sudden became murky. It's been interesting (to me at least) to see some of the inclusion folks having second thoughts. Kind of refreshing, actually. I agree. The original pushback used the argument that it was so rare as to be irrelevant to the overall scheme of things and then, when it wasn't so rare, that there was this murky (to use your word) confluence of science that tried to make a case for equality based on hormone levels at the time of competition. What pushed me over the top was the UA letter, because I had not thought of it, but it rang true to me that a decade of testoterone fueled conditioning doesn't just go away because someone threw a switch and cut off the supply of hormones. It took about two years of inactivity in the pool before I lost my conditioning to a point where I was more or less just a normal recreational swimmer. Perhaps the solution would be a timeframe of where prior conditioning wears off and an athlete is saddled with reconditioning with similar levels of hormones for x amount of time.

Been using that argument for a while with others and it usually got me called a Redhat, or something worse. As usual, I was ahead of the curve. Glad you caught up.

It took about two years of inactivity in the pool before I lost my conditioning to a point where I was more or less just a normal recreational swimmer. Even then, as a former USS swimmer, you still had an advantage because you could go over the edge, block it out, then keep going. Something most HS/Rec swimmers never develop. The mental component is usually still resident, when you were younger. And maybe even today. Perhaps that was what got you through your recent challenge. That same mental edge probably benefited Mutt in his challenge, which he had developed in a different sport. It's one of the benefits of competitive sports that carries on throughout your life.

If you are referring to my quad heart bypass --- it has been NINE years ago! --- my motives were (1) I wasn't interested in dying, (2) I wanted to get back into taekwondo training, and (3) I had a band waiting on me for 6 months to come back and be their lead guitarist. I am also a very poor loser, and I don't like to be beaten at anything. So in my particular case, my sexuality and hormones had nothing to do with it.
Since taekwondo was mentioned, I wonder if Wally thinks that men should be allowed to go full contact against women in that sport, boxing, MMA, or things along those lines? Should Conor McGregor be allowed to fight Ronda Rousey? After all, they are the same height.

Knowing that numbers vary by age, fitness level and genetics, all things being equal, on average, men have 15-20% more muscle by weight. And it's a different kind of muscle. You just described that mental edge I spoke to. Sexuality and hormones I did not mention. If Taekwondo did not hone that attribute you had, my bad. I meant it as a compliment to your mental strength. While Sport doesn't necessarily build character, it can expose it and hone it.

I developed that mental edge way back when I first started playing football in the 5th grade. I wanted to be the best. Hell, even when we had neighborhood pick-up games, it was in my head that I was the best and I would win.

Speaking of that, I literally just got off the phone with Dr. Oncology-guy and he is officially starting the "remission" clock for me. He claims that 2 years from today I will officially get a CDC approved label of "a 50-50 shot of not dying from stage 4 cancer" instead of the current label of "incurable stage 4 cancer". Uh...Woo-Hoo!...??

Duane was the better guitarist. He laughed at clowns who had to dress up like fools and use gimmicks onstage. Duane just stood there and played his ass off, and the people who knew real music loved it. And remember, Duane himself said that Dickey was better than HIM.

Interestingly in that regard, he told me that it takes so long for the results of medical advances to become agreed upon and advances are occurring so rapidly that the CDC has been behind the curve about cancer for a while now. By the time they formally bless something, innovation is already ahead of it. But yes, thanks. It is good news. I am very happy...and still breathing.

So your doctor has just enlightened you to the fact that the CDC has no clue about the harmful side effects of the Covid snake oil since they are "behind the curve." Thank you. Mike drop moment.
