But I want to steer this back to the Bushmaster.  I'm looking forward to getting it, and I am going to find out if it's true that the forward assist button is totally unnecessary.   Eugene Stoner says it is, and he should know.

The military manual states that after a loaded magazine is inserted, the bolt should be released, and the FA should be pushed EVERY TIME.

There is video of Stoner mocking such a move, AND his total distaste for the 3 shot burst option on the M-16A2.

The only time I've ever had to use the FA is when I'm use snap caps and ease the bolt forward instead of using the bolt release and letting it slam home. I'll use FA to pop the extractor over the rim of the cartridge. Never had to use it in live fire.

Yes  I do.  Gunbroker gave me the tracking number, so I have been following it.
UPS is shipping it to an FFL-holding gun range in Baton Rouge, where I will go through the Form 4473 bullshit.
Once that is done, I can go to their rifle range and try it out.
