That said, I'd rather spend a little more money and buy a G21 if I were in the market for another handgun.

Yes.

I just have more invested in .45ACP factory ammo and reloading components.

I CAN reload 9mm, but I don't shoot my P-38 enough to justify gathering up 9mm warheads, and they have to be jacketed. It doesn't like lead bullets at all. I'll admit that the P-38 has a horrible hammer-cocking trigger pull, but the gun just looks so good, IMHO.
AND it is the granddaddy of all subsequent medium and large caliber DA pistols, so it has the historic aura, as well.

The Beretta 92 is almost an exact copy of the P-38's innards.
