"weapons of war" is being drummed over and over and over with democrats and their propaganda branch, the mainstream media. Apparently EVERY gun is a "weapon of war" now. Unbridled insanity.

Of course, the Marines DO go for the "one shot, one kill" mentality, which is why they resisted the M-16 for so long.
The M-16 encourages spray and pray, which is basically wasted ammo. It is estimated that there were 50,000 rounds fired for each single kill in Vietnam. Was that due to poor marksmanship, or spray and pray?
The individual soldier should be limited to semiauto, with a few SAWs thrown in, and an M-2 for heavy suppressive fire.
Agreed. Kids drafted to fight and thrown into a maelstrom having never used firearms was probably a factor in wasting ammo I imagine. Kids drafted (or volunteered) were provided extensive training before going into action. In a jungle environment, where the foliage restricts the view of the enemy, soldiers were encouraged to expend ammo liberally to keep the enemy ducking for cover and hindering their ability to fire effectively. American soldiers carried much more ammo than the VC did.

If they were encouraged to dump mags liberally that's one thing. Running out of ammo prematurely is another. Humping around all that ammo must've been torture.

That was another "advantage" of the M-16. A soldier could carry a lot more 5.56 ammo then he could .30-06 or .308. But they still lugged around the M-60 and the heavier 7.62 NATO rounds, too.
