Abortion according to Scripture
By Doris
Satanic forces tried for centuries to keep Jesus from being born as a human. The detailed history is in Scripture. One famous example is when all the Jew’s male babies in Egypt were ordered killed at birth, but Moses was hidden by his Mother among the reeds at the bank of the Nile River, Exodus 2:1-10. Satan knew Jesus would be a descendant of Moses, so Satan tried to kill Moses.
Another example is in Matthew 2:16. Herod ordered all babies two years and younger born in Bethlehem to be killed, “…according to the time he had diligently inquired of the wise men.”
He wanted to be sure Jesus was killed. Scripture teaches that sin and death is from Satan.
The Supreme Court’s official announcement on June 22, 2022 overturning Roe V. Wade is an answer to prayers and a victory for Christians and for our nation; but the reaction of some Democrats is shameful.
Biden called it “ a sad day for the court and the country.” Among other things, Biden said “Voters need to make their voices heard …”
Nancy Pelosi was visibly angry. She really disgraced herself, showing her hate and contempt. Concerning the court’s decision, she called it: “an evisceration of American “rights” and “a slap in the face of women.”
Pelosi said: “Republicans are plotting a nationwide abortion ban. They cannot be allowed to have a majority in Congress to do that!” She and others said hateful things, shaming themselves.
What does God say about preborn babies and what does He say about abortion?
On January 24, 2020, President Donald Trump let the world know that he agrees with Almighty God, the God of creation, about abortion. How? President Trump attended and spoke at the March for Life Rally in Washington D.C.
He is the first U.S. sitting president to attend and speak in person at the yearly March for Life. The cheering crowd consisted of tens of thousands. You can listen to his speech on the internet. It is moving and will likely bring tears to your eyes. His passion to stop infanticide is evident.
On January 24, 2020 President Trump, referring to Psalm 139:14, spoke of babies being “fearfully and wonderfully made.” He honored mothers and said: “We declare that mothers are heroes.”
Trump said: “We cannot know what our citizens yet unborn will achieve. … every human life, born and unborn, is made in the image of Almighty God.”
1) Simply put, you are a soul; you possess a body and a spirit. Genesis 2:7, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, (body) and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Your body is a house for your soul and spirit. Your soul is the part of you that knows affection, desire, emotion and will. Animals have bodies and souls. Your spirit is the part of you that is capable of knowing and communing with God. I Thessalonians 5:23, “…I pray God your whole spirit, soul and body…” These and other verses show you are different from animals and made in the likeness of God, in that God is spirit and He made us spiritual beings.
2) “This is what the LORD says—He who made you, who formed you in the womb,” (Isaiah 44:2). “And now the LORD says—He who formed me in the womb” (Isaiah 49:5). In both of these verses the Hebrew verb yatsar, translated “formed,” denotes planning. This means God planned the pregnancy. Additional verses
show it is God who plans and then forms a baby in the womb. In Jeremiah 1:5, God tells the prophet, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart;” (NIV). The word for “knew” in Hebrew, yada, here means comprehensive knowledge typical of kinsfolk. Before conception, God had planned the baby and his life!
3) When a baby is growing in the womb, God controls every minute detail? Consider: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place (Psalm 139:13-15, NIV). God’s knowledge of you goes back to before your birth, even before your conception. Knowing this, and having a slight knowledge of the marvels of the human body, the psalmist, David, could not help but praise God and be in awe of Him.
4) The Lord permits or denies conception. Genesis 20:18, “… the LORD closed up every womb in Abimelech’s household because of Abraham’s wife, Sarah”. Also see: Genesis 29:31; Genesis 30:2, 22-23; Ruth 4:13; I Samuel 1:5; I Samuel 1:19-20.
5) God’s Protection - In Exodus 21:22-25 God said if someone hurt a pregnant woman, causing a premature, but safe birth for both mother and child, the guilty person was to be punished. But—if either mother or child was injured or killed the guilty person was to suffer equal loss. It was not usually a capital offense to accidentally kill someone, but in the case of an expectant mother and her baby, it was. In God’s view, as revealed here, the preborn was considered just as human and just as important as the mother, and causing its death was viewed as murder. An expectant mother and her preborn child were given special protection under God’s law.
God sees the killing of a preborn baby as murder; from conception the baby is a living soul. The following two paragraphs give the foundation for the doctrine of the sanctity of all human life:
After the flood in Noah’s day, God instituted human government, at the same time allowing animals to be killed for food. Genesis 9:6, “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.”
Exodus 20:13, the thirteenth commandment states, “You shall not murder.” Centuries earlier, when Cain killed Abel, (Genesis 4:8-16) God’s actions clearly show that unjustifiable killing was always a violation of the individual dignity and status vested in human life by God. Space here leaves many problems unacknowledged, as rape, incest and etc. Maybe we’ll consider some later.
Scripture acquaints the birth of a baby with joy and blessing and the loss of a baby with heartache and sorrow. When Sarah gave birth to Isaac she said, “God hath made me laugh…” (Genesis 21:6).
Psalm 127:3 reads, “Lo, children are an heritage from the LORD; and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” An unborn child is a gift from God!
