Whether you call it strength or power, both absolutely increase your bat speed. I would love to have seen the exit velocity numbers they use now when Bonds (amongst others) wasn't juicing and compare them against when he was. I guarantee you there would have been a marked increase. From Google What are the benefits of PED? PEDs may offer numerous benefits to competitors or athletes in sports. Benefits can include increasing strength, speed, or endurance (through ergogenic drugs) or by altering body weight or body composition. I stand corrected.I think that is probably referring more to foot speed but the increased muscle mass in the core and arms are when generates a quicker bat. I will have to find the study but I recall seeing it could increase bat speed anywhere from 4-10%. Still gotta hit the ball but once you make contact, the additional bat speed will definitely make the ball travel farther.

My whole point was it doesn't matter how hard you hit the ball if you don't make solid contact with a little lift. You could have guys like me, Cerrato Jr., who could track and rack a fastball anytime. But Start throwing me off speed breaking stuff and it's a whole different story. Turned me into a full time football player. LOL!

PEDs took away a lot from sports in general, and baseball in particular. But whatcha gonna do??? And I wonder if that is fair. PED's will make you hit the ball harder but most of these guys still have to barrel the ball up to drive it out of the park. I wonder just how much the PEDs really affected home run numbers. Affected the numbers big time imo. You have to already be an athlete, that’s true. But what PED’s do is add a few extra feet of distance, so warning track shots become home runs.

Bats are afraid of curve ball. Must ask Joboo. Bats no like Curve Ball

But I agree you have to have talent and opportunity to begin with.
Some wonder how many HRs Junior would have hit absent injuries. That's KG Jr. Damn he had a sweet swing.
But you can't beat father time. You just hope to gain a tie for as long as you can.

Yeah, me too... Reminds me of the story about Nolan Ryan finally, later in his career, deciding to throw a circle changeup. I don't remember the batter but he is telling the story that he has two strikes on him and hasn't come close to touching a pitch when Ryan debuts his circle change that came in and dropped about a foot arm side, winding up well below the batters knees. He said he was frozen, sitting on that 100 mph fastball and all he could think was damn, that's just not fair.

Junior had the most beautiful left handed swing in the game. Despite not producing nearly as much, I always loved Alphanso Soriano's swing from the right side, with the big leg cock and huge follow through with that big twig he used.

Junior had the most beautiful left handed swing in the game. Despite not producing nearly as much, I always loved Alphanso Soriano's swing from the right side, with the big leg cock and huge follow through with that big twig he used. Junior was just special. His bat almost glided through the zone and he always seemed to be in total control, smooth and easy. I don't recall ever seeing him swing too hard and lose his balance. Another one like that was George Brett. The year he hit .390 a writer for Sports Illustrated swore that he saw Brett on a golf course seeing a ball flying toward him, grab a club and swing and hit the ball in flight back toward the direction it came from.
